Is My Brother Right?
8 Answers
Im 27. I quit my job over a year ago because if covid. Ive developed ocd over covid and I find it difficult to get a job. Honestly though. When it comes down to it im just lazy and lack motivation. That plays a big part.i live with my mom. She doesn't charge me rent. I told her to but she doesn't because she knows I'd quickly run out of money so I've been kind of living off her so im very privileged. I think im just a loser.
anyways, a few years ago my brother and I bought a mobile home with some money our grandparents left behind. I sold him my half and hes suppose to pay me 400 a month. We wrote up an agreement and had it notarized. He came to the house today and had a talk with me. Before anyone says that hes just trying to justify not paying me. I know that's not what he's doing. He's just genuinely concerned that if he keeps paying me that I'll never get a job and honestly that's probably what would happen. So he payed me $1,180 today and told me that if I dont have a job in 2 months then hes gonna start putting the money in a bank account that I can't acces. Essentially tough love. He said that im lucky my mom hasn't kicked me out and I agree. I think most people would agree. He said he feels bad because he knows its my money and that I can take him to court but he feels like he needs to do this. I think he's mostly right and that I need this to get back on my feet. What do you think?

I wonder if a chat with your doctor might help. A short course of counselling might help, along with maybe just doing some voluntary work for a few months. It will put something useful on your CV, and get you back into the routine with less pressure. Next would be to think about it you need more training or updating to make you more employable. I am sure your brother would release money to pay course fees.
Most importantly find a job you enjoy doing, then laziness won't be a problem because you will want to go to work.
