Having posted threads detailing what a disaster Brexit has been for the UK (from the loss of billions of pounds in exports, to the loss of key-workers etc, etc); nearly two weeks ago I posted an extract from a letter in Private Eye, inviting other readers to list a single advantage of Brexit.

On receipt of my copy (of PE) today, I first turned to the letters page to read all the letters detailing the many Brexit advantages - I planned to post a précis of those advantages to fellow ABers.
I can report that there was not a single letter within the letters pages extolling the advantage(s) of Brexit – despite my estimate that there are at least 100,000 PE readers who voted Leave.

NJ claims that the editorial of PE is overtly anti-Brexit.

I have been reading the magazine for around 30 years – during that time I believe every issue to include a cartoon headed ‘EU-phemisms’ together with a column titled ‘Brussels Sprouts’ – both invariably taking the *** out of the EU.
We’ll, at least they’ve fooled you, hymie. :o)

Indeed Hymie. But the EU is ripe for that sort of satire. It doesn't mean the magazine is sympathetic to Brexit, just that it takes advantage when opportunities arise to provide its readers with entertainment. Even ardent Remainers must chuckle sometimes.
// The 237k circulation figure is ‘abc’ verified – printed on page 7 of the current issue.//

oh stop quoting facts to Brexiteers, you know it doesnt make sense
// Private Eye is an outdated comic for people who’ve yet to grow up.//
oh um wide subscribership on AB then ..... ter daaah
Hymie, has your life since Brexit got so bad that all you have left as an existence is to constantly whinge about Brexit?

What has changed in your life that makes things so bad??
British sovereign waters now exclusively contain only British faeces
Everyone living the EU dream eh ?

Story is a month old but it is being discussed on bbc news as I type
It says there were 120 crossings in the whole of last year
The current rate is 500 a day
The Poles are also going to build a wall to stop said crossings
Seems the EU want to keep this one quiet though
This is why we are better off out of it
As TTT says sovereignty is everything

If you must read a spoof "letters page" then grow up and get the best one. That would be Viz. Far and away more accurate and entertaining as well.
Example......
""Dear sir,
Why doesn't the NHS start hiring obsessive compulsives as nurses? Their attention to hygiene and constant hand washing would see an end to covid outbreaks in hospitals pretty sharpish.""
I reckon PE is rather neutral.
The jokes have attacked Remainers just as much as Leavers.
PE’s first Editor, Christopher Booker was a rampant EuroSceptic and was still beloved when he died 2 years ago. Booker wrote a variety of publications advancing a eurosceptic, though academically disputed, popular historiography of the European Union. The best-known of these is The Great Deception.
// Private Eye is an outdated comic for people who’ve yet to grow up.//

And PE outsells the Daily Express, which is the Leavers comic of choice.
I wouldn’t say the Express is the leavers comic of choice, gromit. It doesn’t even make it into a respectable position on the best sellers’ list… but carry on repeating this tired old rhetoric. Doubtless some will taken in by it.
