Just had an email from my supplier saying that from April my duel fuel monthly payments will increase from £83.73 to £124.72. Ouch! And possible further increase from the fall out of Vlad the Impaler II's actions of terrorism.

How much will yours go up?

Can be -8c during winter and very high 40's during summer here.
If we're not paying for heating we are paying for cooling Dave.
Never been offered an "average" payment plan, thank goodness.
when it works it works well IMV
Oh it's better 1ozzy. You pay the same every month, instead of getting sudden huge bills.
We also get a discount for paying by monthly direct debit, usually.
If it's so much better Hoppy why do I see lots of posts on AB from people having a whinge about it?

Pay for what you use, learn to budget.
Simple;-)
Think people are having a moan 1ozzy because of the amount their bills have gone up in one big jump. Some who were paying say £100 a month are finding they are now expected to pay closer to £200 a month or even more in some cases and many do not have the spare cash to pay.
Both my current supplier and my previous one allow you to adjust your DD.

If you are unhappy what they request you just set it lower. This of course risks your payments being higher in future, but allows you to stop building a big credit in their account.
Like you, I have been paying £84 a month for both gas and electric for a few years on a 4 bedroom house and this is about right as I am still a little in credit so far On a fixed rate until end of April so dreading the increase. My heating is on constantly day and night from November until Spring and I dont usually tamper with the dial but will be worried about having it switched on at all in the future. There are some people already paying scary bills and it's not even April yet.
//Although I've lived here for over thirty years, and have never changed supplier,//

Why is that Chris - haven't you ever found any cheaper supplier ?
My standing charge for electric will jump from 27.39 to 50.055

Hunting for new supplier now, but not easy as some are not showing tarrifs
Not worth shopping around at the moment, according to Martin Lewis. Certainly don't sign up to one with an exit fee.

British Gas were very good to me, back in the days when I was largely unemployed, Bazile, and I simply couldn't afford to pay my bills. I've remained loyal ever since.
Currently paying £300 pm and it’s going to be doubling. Even on £300 I’ve been pleading with them that something has to be wrong and to please send somebody to check the meters, but all they ask for are readings, and when they have them they say there’s nothing wrong - how they would know this without checking is beyond me.

BTW, I don’t live in a mansion. It’s a normal 4 bed detached, empty during week day days. and we’re a family of four with what I would suggest is average use (we aren’t heating swimming pools!!!).

I’ve said to them so many times that surely it stands to reason that over £3500 a year cannot possibly be correct (and from April £7000), but it just falls on deaf ears, and I don’t know what to do.
Desk diary your bills sound terrifying yet sounds like we are in similar situations. Mine is a 4 bedroom detached but £84 has been just right for dual fuel fixed with Scottish power for last few years and am in little credit at moment. Plus once winter hits I turn heating on and dont turn off again till spring. If it helps I know I use 3650kwh electricity a year(all lightbulbs LED which helped) and 12,600kwh gas per year as a comparison. Someone is home everyday of the week too.
