In the olden days, hippies didn't exist; there were Freaks, and there were Heads. Then came the days of Hippies and 'If you go to San Francisco..."
Anybody here old enough to remember the pre-Hippie era?

Heavy man.
Question Author
tonyav. We all have our histories and our memories, and they are all different. I respect all points of view (well, not quite all) but skinhead, suede head, soul boy - why not? It's what's in your heart that matters. If you're an assole, you're an assole. If you're nice, you're nice.
'Heads' and 'freaks' are new terms to me (in the context that Atheist is using them) but Google suggests that heads favoured hallucinogenic drugs (for 'tripping out'), whereas freaks preferred amphetamines (to get a 'buzz').
...... and if you're mellow you're mellow man.
Question Author
Maydup. Why 'Heavy man'? You're such a tease. You really make me feel pretentious. I'd better shut up. :-)
Question Author
Thanks, Buen. I didn't know that. I was just living in local sixties time and hadn't gone into the details. Interesting.
Question Author
Maydup. Perhaps you might decide not to tease me with your witty posts? :-)
Speed freaks and acid heads Chris.

But the the earlier heads were happy stoners.
Just remeniscing Atheist. Happiest dopiest days of my life!
Question Author
Thanks, Maydup.
I'd welcome some more of your historical explanations. Acid head - Speed freak - It all make sense. I saw it through my eyes at the time.
Question Author
Maydup. Do you still smoke? I gave up with no difficulty when I needed promotion and couldn't quite accept no more alcohol. The dope was easy. Tobacco and booze not so easy.
As I grew out of my circle of friends at the time, and moved away I sort of straightened up as they say! It was a slow process and I'm still not a fan of the establishment or properly straight people (!) but I dont smoke anymore, or dirnk to excess.

It was such a great time to be young and free though. Imagine being a teenager nowadays ...............

Question Author
Nice to hear from you Maydup. Best wishes. I don't think that people here are supposed to make personal friends, so bye for now. At last I'll have an idea of who you are if I post on your thread in the future. I'll try to be polite (depending on what you have said. :-))
In my olden days teenagers didn't exist, you were a boy or a man.
Question Author
But women are still 'girls'.
I'll post but can't join in as I was born around the time of the unholy trinity and glam rock era and I was a New Romantic.
I can go back to the 40s and as barry1010 says, we didn't have teenagers then. Boys were youths or young adults and girls were young women. I don't remember any 'Heads or Freaks'. Teddy boys came onto the scene in the 50s in our area. Blue suede shoes ,long jackets, DA hairstyles. Hippies and their free love and drugs in the 60s. One of the drugs LSD gave people hallucinations . Users often jumped from windows balconies when they were under the influence of LSD.
Question Author
Andres; I don't think that "Users often jumped from windows balconies when they were under the influence of LSD."
It may have happened, but not often.
oh it did..... someone I knew jumped off a balcony thinking he could fly. Postscript, he couldn't.
