The BBC's remit (as defined by its Royal Charter) is actually "to act in the public interest, serving all audiences through the provision of impartial, high-quality and distinctive output and services which inform, educate and entertain".

I'm extremely happy to be informed and educated about life in other countries.

The BBC has more home grown content on its schedules than any other British broadcaster.
We share a language with the US, so it is reasonable to show English language programmes made in the US - Hollywood films, and award winning TV.
