I got a driving lesson tomorrow but I don't if I should give up or go auto. I'm not desperate to drive but don't know if I will be going forward .

If something is difficult do you normally just throw the towel in? Driving will give you independence and confidence that, once gained, you would never wish to be without. It would also increase job opportunities as a driving licence is essential for many jobs.

Ask yourself, in life, are you a quitter or a fighter ?

When you know that, you know the answer to your question.

Whether you think you can end up passing this, or whether you think you can't, you're probably right.
I was fortunate with my daughter who struggled with parking for a start. We had access to a private, empty at weekend car park.
Could practice three point turns in the drive way in, and I set out some empty cardboard boxes to park between. Some of her problem was me being there and telling her she was doing it wrong, so I left her to it for an hour, nothing to hit or damage but boxes. No idea if you can find a way to try that, maybe the instructor is or has put you off by being there. As to the manual Vs auto, there are plenty of auto cars out there now and as someone above says probably more than ever coming along, only problem is it does restrict from being able to drive a friend or relatives manual in the future.
Did you cancel and give up, Abbey, or did you decide to carry on?

Decided to try again today
Good girl. Well done. Have you asked to try in an automatic?
Question Author
Tried to contact a company about it
What do you mean? You have a lesson booked with your usual instructor, don't you? Can you not call the office he works from and leave a message?
But what will you be wearing?
Abbey, I was once told that you need as many lessons as your age.
I was 20yrs old when I learnt to drive and had 20 lessons.
I also practised in between lessons with my brother.
We used to go to an area where mass demolition had taken place, so no houses, traffic etc just roads and that is where I learned to reverse round corners, 3-point turns and parallel parking.
When I had cracked it, I went on the main roads.
Can I just say, you really need to get as much practice as you can in between your lessons, I hope you are able to do that.
Good luck, I hope you persevere with it.
I know I will probably have to parallel park this afternoon and I am still rubbish at it ( driving for 50 years,) There's nearly always a car in front or behind hooting at me. It's not easy when other drivers behave so.
jazzgirl I am shocking at any kind of parking after driving for 56 yrs.
My daughter can park in the smallest of places usually first time.
It's a knack I don't have.
Barsel, I only drive a small automatic but still I misjudge the size of the parking space.. -:(

jazzgirl, snap. :-)
The driving test in my day did not include parallel parking. I remember learning to do a reverse turn round a corner from a main road into to a side road
Abbey ~

Does this video help ?

i dont think you have to reverse round a corner for the test any more.
just buy a car with park assist for those of you that panic about parking
ps re manual vs auto - i have driven an auto for preference for about 20 years now, and have never ha to drive a manual in that time. i could still drive one (if for example there was a zombie apocalypse)
but that would be about the only situation were id consider it

Driving instructor cancelled
Has the instructor given you a new booking ?
I'm a driving instructor. Any driving instructor that tells you that you will never drive isn't worth their salt . Try another instructor. Try a auto' they are so much easier to drive than a manual.
