What Should I Do When Church Is Too Cold To Attend?

I went for Christmas carols to a new church, but we sat on cold wooden pews with no heat on. I, plus a few others who attended, (not many), sat with coats and scarves on all evening. I haven't been back, but should I get elsewhere?

As you know it was cold wrap up warmly and take a cushion and hot water bottle

I went to church on Christmas Day and it was cold there. Churches are cold and they do have hard seats. Wrap up warm next time and take a cushion with you. It is VERY expensive to heat churches. It's up to you whether to go elsewhere.

I think that is common in churches as my devout MIL was also saying it is cold.

so wear another layer or get one of those heated body warmers.

Churches are generally cold - they are ancient buildings that are impossible to heat properly.  Indeed, heating is a complete waste since most of it is lost up to the high ceilings.  Either go to a modern church in a modern building or accept that 12th/13th/14th/15th C buildings tend to be freezing.

'New Church' do you mean new to you?

Our church is a small Norman foundation 2++ listed.  We've invested hugely in a modern, efficient boiler, but on Christmas Eve it was worth it for a pleasant 18 degrees, we thought. I tried without a coat, but put it back on and all was well.  A full church, great atmosphere, lots of laughter, kids getting stickers for lighting candles, carolling etc.. Until 1  woman complained how cold it was!

If there aren't many people then there isn't much money to heat the place and it's very hard to warm up old buildings.  We'd love to keep it warmer and keep the century-old organ from getting damp etc., but we can't afford to. 

So please support the church that is struggling if you enjoyed your experience ther otherwise.

I mean a modern church Jourdain.  Your church is small.  My home village church is massive and it is blinkin freezing.  It is completely pointless heating it because the heat just disappears into its cavernous roof space.  It is a beautiful church, but you just know if you are going to midnight mass or a service in the winter to wrap up jolly well.
