If we become seriously ill, do we just accept the condition and give up? No. Usually, we visit a physician and perhaps take medicine to combat the disease. In fact, we do all we reasonably can to avoid dying

The Bible says regarding humans that God has “put eternity in their heart. ” (Eccl. 3:11)

Sometimes unbearable pain & disability are the enemies, death (oblivion) is the saviour.

This appears to be the Jehovah's Witnesses' version of 'Thought for the Day'.

They live their lives dwelling on death.

"Dwelling on death" doesn't sound particularly health; however, accepting the reality that I’m going to die can be a major motivating factor in my life.

Unsure what your last sentence has to do with that before it.

It is natural to try to survive because we arrive here with no evidence of anything but existing here, and folk value existence over non-existence in most circumstances.

To exist just for the sake of existing is pointless, living isn't everything, living life to the full should be everyone's goal.

That's far too exhausting. Settle for peace & love.

Maybe they don't want to leave their family?

1 Corinthians 15 death. is to be brought to nothing.  Another implication of denying the resurrection is that if Christ had not been raised, it would mean that no ransom had been paid to God Imperfect humans would remain in their sins, without any hope of redemption or salvation Psalm 146:4.it is ashamed that I cannot help those who have no faith or belief in a creative card and the hope of Life eternally but many people misunderstand the work that JW is trying to say people's lives should not destroyed they are open-minded and will try to help anyone with a resistive heart but some will try to miss a lead or tell lies about fellow worshipers who are trying to make identification in their creator but those who do not wish to come to an understanding that there is a supreme being in the heavens and desiring to give them a permanent life upon this earth he has given you the direction in his diary how to obtain this life-saving message but many people rejected as a myth or a or a just a story these four tolled within the scriptures that this would happen but we still try to help those who are willing to listen and that is why I keep on trying to impress on those who have no hope.

I am human: I consider nothing human alien to me.  Well, except folk dancing and incest.

But if god puts strange tastes into our minds why are they considered sins?

sandy - Clearly you're not down with the JW attitude - you have to spend your entire life convinced of your own unassailable superiority.

This does bring the unfortunate byproduct of a need to display Olympian levels of condecension and pity on anyone who is not like you, and parallel planet-sized levels of smugness that you are going to be 'saved' and everyone else is not.

Exhausting? Absolutely!

Rewarding - Only if it gels with your own levels of unpleasant arrogance.

Fulfilling - Ah, well that remains to be seen.

I think all JW tombstones should carry the inscription -

'I know something you don't know ... ' because by then, they actually will.

Some folk actually pander to this stuff while proclaiming their non-belief.

They then concoct a confection of self-serving nonsense to justify their position.

Quite baffling.

douglas - I'm not sure I see any 'pandering' or 'self-serving' in my response - ?

My knowledge of religion is shockingly poor, largely because it is all abject cobblers and I don't have a religious bone in my body, but one of the things that has always puzzled me is that given these nutcases believe in heaven, then why don't they look forward to dying once they've been fully brainwashed and indoctrinated?

Or perhaps they do.

Not for the first time you imagine that everything is about andy.

Get over yourself man.

Douglas - Not for the first time, you are wrong.

Get a sense of humour man.

Deskdiary, that's a question I've often asked.  I'd say the answer is they're afraid of death.  Depending upon the flavour of the religion, some are terrified of the prospect of oblivion, others are afraid that unless they remain sycophantic, they will face eternal punishment from an allegedly loving God.  I've never been quite sure how hurting people you love works but there you are.  I have no problem with the gentle kind of Christianity - the wishy-washy belief of those who use the church for baptisms, marriages and funerals - the sort that many who cleave to a Sunday school version of God hold dear - that they will some day be with their loved ones again - that's a comfort to the dying and there's nothing wrong with comforting the dying.   Anything else is a pure evil designed by men to control men.

I have long believed, and often states on here, that religion is Man's answer to the unexplained  - why are we here,  and what happens next.

Sadly, our common linking psychological need for support is cruelly exploited for power and influence.

It will never end - what makes us human will always be used against us.

"Everyone" wants to go to heaven; but not quite yet.

They're ok where they are at present; there's no rush.

It is a shame that many of us fear death, a consequence of sin inherited from Adam and Eve. However, Jesus gave us hope in the promise of resurrection, which will allow us to live again on a perfect earth free from war, famine, and disease. In that new world, there will be no need for doctors or medical treatment, as our bodies will never decay as they do in our current reality. Through his teachings, the Creator has allowed us to gain an accurate understanding of his plans for mankind – a future of eternal life on this earth. The scriptures do not mention ascending to heaven; rather, they indicate that there will be a new heaven and a new earth when Christ Jesus, the Ransom sacrifice for our sins, arrives.

Genesis 3 .19In the sweat of your face you will eat bread* until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken.+For dust you are and to dust you will return.

Psalm 146..4 His spirit goes out, he returns to the ground; On that very day his thoughts perish.
Psalm .104:29 When you hide your face, they are disturbed. .If you take away their spirit, they die and return to the dust

Colossians 1-13.14by means of whom we have our release by ransom, the forgiveness of our sins

Only crooks and weirdos demand ransoms.
