If there was a referendum on whether your country should become another state of the US, what would you vote.

No

No, no, no.

The usual right-wing 5C's would perhaps vote yes if it meant getting rid of Starmer.

I'd vote no. I'd rather have the most useless government in history than be run by the US. As much as I hate our current shower they are at least our elected shower and transitory.

No.

some of the US is very nice indeed... and a lot of it is really horrible. nice to visit but i have no desire to live in it.

No. However....

If the UK was still a member of the EU, with no prospect of withdrawal, I might reconsider.

The same as if my country should become another state of the EU.

No.

NJ; but the UK is not a member of the EU. Would you really yield sovereignty to the USA, after all you've said about sovereignty being the only thing that matters when considering Brexit?

Why NJ. What would be better about having federal laws imposed on you by Washington rather than Brussels?

Interesting to see our Judiciary member approving our right to bear arms.

As I said, I'd have to think about it.

Of course independence is my preferred choice. But if the choice was to remain an EU member or swap that to become a State of the USA I would have to give that serious consideration.

Faced with the choice of being a State of the USA, where the highest rate of income tax (37.5%) doesn't kick in until $600,000 and anyone earning $100,000 pays just 22%, where its administration has ambitions to grow the economy by deregulation and lower taxes, or being shackled to the EU, which sees one of its greatest achievements as the abolition of national borders and sees its ambition to be a "regulatory superpower", it could be a tough choice.

"What would be better about having federal laws imposed on you by Washington rather than Brussels?"

Nothing. My scenario is where the country would have to choose one or the other, where independence was not an option. And in that case sovereignty is gone, So other factors must be considered.

//the EU, which sees one of its greatest achievements as the abolition of national borders and sees its ambition to be a "regulatory superpower",//

Does the US have border checks between its member States?

Is the federal government not a regulatory superpower?

Is it all about tax rates for you?.

22:43 No contest If I had to choose, I'd go US. Not just for the taxation situation but for the culture. We are totally different to mainland Europe all we have in common is geography. We are a creator of the US and have a lot in common with them. Europe still leans towards socialism as the default. Thankfully we are not making that choice.

If I was compelled to choose, I'd opt for the USA - no contest.

... be great to get an internal flight to Hawaii!

the question does not actually mention the EU. a certain mod is very keen on removing posts that are designated as "off topic"... seems not to be an issue here

You seem upset, untitled.  Rather than just popping in to moan, have a go at answering the question.

i already did
