Monarchy Versus Republic?
25 Answers
I never used to have much time for the Royals, and I still think they let us down quite often, but I believe I was confusing the people with the office. Therefore, I do believe that our Monarchy is a good institution that should be preserved, even if it is required to change with the times.
Wouldn't a British Republic be a backward step then?

I can't think of an ideal system that would actually be better than what we have. A figure head works well, so maybe a president above politics? But the all too easy calls for the abolition of the monarchy are often born out of sour grapes aren't they? Yes there are scandals, but are presidents scandal free?
well i for one think most royalists have been
brainwashed, how on earth can you bow &
courtsy to someone who you only know from
pictures you may have seen on the tv, they
are no better than anyone else, they are
there by accident of birth. also has someone
has already said they are a product of inbreeding, the queens family is more german
than british, but what tops it off for me is
most of the royals are cruel sadistic
animal abusers, i.e fox & stag hunting.
i have no respect for such barbaric cruel
sadists.

better to judge people on their deeds
rather than a title, if working class people
indulged in such sadist past times they would
be branded yobs.but because the have in some peoles eyes a priviliged position, you can excuse anything, cruelty is cruelty no matter
who perpetrates it. and people who see no wrong in
such actions are just as bad...... i guess that means you.

I'm sorry you feel that way, so angry I mean.
No, I don't like cruelty either, so we have something in common.
I admit that our royals could behave better, but all countries need a figurehead and head of state. In the USA these dual roles are fulfilled by one person, but not here in the UK.
I simply wonder what would we replace the royals with, and would it be a positive move, without any drawbacks?
