Has there come a time where people are sick of murderers, rapists and pedophiles getting away with soft sentences in 'easy living' prisons?

Imagine the fear in someone's eyes when they are marched up to the noose and know their life is about to end. Surely this would be the only time when they really think about their actions and perhaps their not such the big person anymore. For the victims family its justice and lets face it, isn't it justice that criminals are severely punished for their crimes rather than watching TV from the comfort of their cells at our expense?!

There is no justice in the criminal justice system anymore.

I think you've got the focus wrong. Instead of murderers, rapists and child-abusers, we should string up people who own dogs they can't control, people who put bugs on TV programmes, people who have loud conversations on mobile phones in public places, and of course drivers go at high speed through puddles so pedestrians get soaked. Oh, and everyone involved with the Daily Mail.
I have mixed feelings over this question, Yes i agree an eye for an eye, but how do you know if the person was guilty? I mean if the police get the wrong suspect and then hang him and then 6 months or a year later they find new evidence that clears the persons name...
Bring it back definitely! Too many prisoners...not that we're meant to call them that anymore, the correct term is now 'trainee' as we're training them to go back into society! But anyway back to the point people who commit crimes aren't punished for what they have done they get sentenced...if they plead guilty the barrister can then plea bargin as their client has admitted to killing someone for example - they then get rewarded for telling the truth! good of em eh?! which means a lesser sentence of which they will serve half minus the number of days they have already spent on remand plus if they behave and participate in classes they serve less for good behaviour and may still be let out on parol. They are housed for want of a better word, fed, educated, trained in skilled trades, get washing and cleaning facilities they get entertainment provided ie TV pool tables etc and to add injury to insult they get all this for free...thats because you the tax payers pay for them. Did you know it cost more to keep a criminal behind bars then it does to keep an old person in an old peoples home? sickening eh? The victims family on the other hand get what? peace of mind...no, compensation...no, justice...no, satisfaction in the criminal justice system...no. What do they actually get? the loss of a loved one, they suffer pain, frustration, stress, anger they feel let down and they also know that within a measly amount of time the individual that murdered, attacked or raped their son/daughter/mother/father/brother/sister will be free to roam the streets and do it again to someone else in no time at all...thats justice isn't it?
Jenstar what have you got against Daily Mail readers?
yes
Olly the Daily Mail has nothing to do with this question, your opinions on hanging would be far more appreciated. Personally I think hanging is a bit drastic but the whole 'criminal' justice system does need addressing as does the prison service.
thats all very well when they have the right person but think how often they get it wrong at least u can be freed from prison but u cant if u have had yr life taken
In the world where DNA technology is so good then in cases where guilty is 100% then it should be carried out if there is doubt dont hang them
I personally think it is the whole of the Criminal Justice System that is messed up! My son was beat up about 3 weeks ago now, I called the Police and they assured me that someone would be out to us to take a statement, this was on a tuesday evening by the Thursday evening I had telephoned the Police Station several times, taken time off work to wait for the police who never did turn up. Sooooo on the Thursday night I stood outside the Police Station (AT NIGHT IT IS LOCKED UP) for approx 40mins, the very next day a policeman came out.

The point I am trying to make is that when we need a Policeman to help us, we can take a running jump, I pay over 270 month Council Tax to alledgely pay for these things.

Anyway,,,,,, I read in a paper recently that an Illegal Immigrant came into OUR country, drove without Insurance, Tax etc etc killed a little child and WALKED AWAY.

YES BRING BACK HANGING - More likely for our friends in Government though for messing up our Country!
What about the family of the person murdered? Where is their closure? There is always the possibility that a guilty person will be released and repeat their crime and let's face it,it has happened several times over the past years. Surely its about time that our children, our police and people should be protected and, if execution is the answer as a deterrent, yes, I think that is what should happen. If my child had been murdered or attacked I cannot think of any punishment that would be appropriate.
Unfortunately, no matter how strong the evidence might appear to be, there is very, very, rarely 100% proof of guilt.

Even in what seem some of the most cut and dried cases, it has been later discovered that an innocent person was hanged.

Just think, it could have so easily been you. Still want hanging to return? I think not.
No
too many miscarriages.

i would much prefer life to actually mean life - not 15, out in 8.

i would also prefer them to feel every single second of that life imprisonment - every single long, lonely, miserable, fearful, hopeless, painful, hateful second of it.

that would be much more suffering than hanging
NO. How many convicted people are later found not guilty.
We should have retained it in Law but not used it. Or sparingly like every 10 years....

Death Row would be even more packed but would I care if it was a paedo? ( The Wests anyone?) or a murderer... rapist.....

Human Rights would no doubt have a field day.

Only two countries in Europe -- Belarus and Uzbekistan -- still have the death penalty. Mind you, in Belarus.... if you even dare to protest against the machine you'll be hung lol.... can just see Tony threatening that one ;-)

Why did you only choose the noose btw? what's wrong with a bit of frying?

Yes.

Vengeance might be deserved, but personally I could not pull the lever, throw the switch or whatever it takes to execute someone in cold blood. Could you? Somewhere along the way life imprisonment has lost its meaning and the deterrent effect it could have had. If there were prisons for lifers, and used for that purpose, then the question of hanging would not need to be an issue. Perhaps bringing more pressure to bear on our MPs could be worth while.
Yes bring back the noose, the cat o nine tail's and the stocks!!!!!!!!!
something really has to be done to stop this wave of crime that is sweeping this country ,so yes i aggree that we should bring back hanging, these young teenagers who think it is clever to carry a gun, wasn't it 3 teenagers shot recently whithin a 10 day period? surely that can't be right ? people who plant bombs on the underground ,they cannot be allowed to walk free ,these people laugh at our justice system, is the trial still going on at the old bailey? last i heard they were in a hotel costing 200 a night ,prison sentances are no deterrant these days ,we something more severe and final
