What crime is worse - a peadophile or a racist ?

Bet this question will start a few heated rows gerkin!
Personally a Peadophile, i think that is the most horrible crime ever. they should be locked up and have the key thrown away. If the storys are true about what happens to them in prison, they deserve all they get.
i read the Sarah Payne book a few years ago and their family went through hell. he was a sick, dirty pervert.

i am not saying that racists are ok by the way, they are bad in their own way and have no right to treat other people like that. just peadophiles make my skin and blood boil at just the name! Its only my opinion.

It depends which newspaper you read but both are equally appalling. You could argue (and the tabloids often fuel rather than abate this fact) that racism is caused by ignorance, however I have never heard of a war caused exclusively by Paedophilia, unless perhaps Ginghis Khan or some other ancient dictator was involved in that sort of thing. If he wasn't then please do not misunderstand my ignorance on the matter for racism.

i cant believe this question was asked. Clearly a paedo is worse as a child is defenseless. I know an adult from a different race is also a victim however they would be slightly more of an advantage to try to fight back.

Whilst racial attacks, abuse etc are beyond words and a shocking crime in their own right it cannot surely be likened to the abuse or death of a child.

The poor 15 year old in Scotland who was attacked, tortured and killed by older men in a racist attack was pretty much defenceless.

I think you are referring to the last issue, lager85. And on that subject there can rarely be a 'sensible debate'.

Gerkin � define what yean by the crime of �paedophile�. If you mean in terms of the act of sex then this is statutory rape and in law carries a maximum life sentence. Rape also has the maximum penalty of life imprisonment.

It is not illegal to be a paedophile, or to suffer from paedophilia, but if a paedophile chooses to act on their attraction, that is a different matter entirely.

as i have experience of the horrendous implications of both type of crime i can honestly say that there may be little difference on the phsyche of the victim, i agree that children are innocents and paedophilia is the most terrifying and outragious of crimes, my personal belief is that there can be no place in society for people that commit such a gross assault on children and that perpetrators should be locked far away from society for the rest of their lives, but also please remember racism is not only a crime among adults, it is one that can affect children just as badly, how many children have been tortured and murdered due to racism, even the everyday grind of walking down the street to be called names only because of the way you look is demoralizing and degrading and you can live in the fear of when the taunts may turn to violence. i think this question is not really answerable on a sociopolitical level but must be looked at from the viewpoint of the victim, both crimes are completely disgusting and it is my opinion that as a society we must be harsher on the perpetrators to try to evolve a new way of life where everyone can feel safe.
