bags on seats on public transport
8 Answers
Does it annoy anyone else when the bus/train/tube is full, all seats taken and someone is sitting there with their bag on the seat and make no effort to move it unless you actually ask them. Not all people would be bold enough to ask. I just think it's good manners to remove your bag when you can clearly see all seats are taken and people are having to stand

Where it really bugs me is at airports on the shuttle bus to the plane where you're all cramped like sardines in a tin anyway...
Gets on my nerves also, what you need to do in a very sarcastic tone is say...
You : "ahhh has he had a hard day"
Them : "Sorry?"
You : "Your bag, has he had a hard day at work?"
Them : "What are you talking about?"
You : "Oh I thought your back must have been really sleepy if he needs a seat to himself".
It's also a good idea to give it a kick on the way past of they put in on the floor.

I have to say I'm a bit ambivalent about this one.
I can understand what everyone else means.
However, one day, a couple of years ago when I was in high school, I was feeling ill due to my asthma. So I decided to take the bus home. I'd only been on the bus for a couple of minutes when a big fat smelly slightly drunken man came and sat next to me. I could hardly breathe as it is, but I nearly suffocated with him there. Ever since then. I've been wary of people sitting next to me on the bus. It's just as well that I usually walk to places!

i got on a train coming home once, there didn't seem to be any seats but spotting one i made my way up, there was a young girl with her dog, the dog was under the seat near the window, so i just said "do you think your dog would mind mind if i sat down ?" eveybody looked at me and the look on the girls face was priceless!! but she got up and moved the dog under her feet, she kept giving me funny looks but never said anything!
as a scotrail guard i can tell you this true story from one of my work mates, apon discovering an elderly lady on the train with her pet lapdog on the seat next to her he asked her to remove the dog from the seat(hairs, paw prints etc) at this the lady produced not only a ticket for herself but one for the dog also....my freinds reply...well madam, could you ask your dog to remove his feet of the seat please....classic.
