if they want to be really correct, then technically, given that black is a colour, a blackboard is actually black... a black person is not actually black, they are various shades of brown - never actually genuinely the colour black... so perhaps instead of changing nursery rhymes and names of coloured objects, the people who decide this is racist need to come up with a new term for ''black'' people, after all we don't call chinese people yellow or native americans ''red'' anymore as people used to in the old days, so why has this one stuck?
and while i am at it, i may be pale skinned but my skin is not ''white'' so perhaps a new term for ''white'' too... peach colour or pink, perhaps...?
regarding all the chairperson stuff, perhaps they should just change the spelling to chairmun or min or mon or m'n, make it a word in itself, like they have with wimmin - so that there is no need for all these new titles... though i suppose thats not necessarily easier or simpler
don't like madam chairman at all
nor wpc and pc - the fact that it always has to be assumed male unless stated otherwise, is quite odd... should be mpc or fpc - male and female.
the problem with all this stuff it that it may seem pointless and petty and unecessary, but it does need to happen.
some are indeed silly, but these subtle changes are important to ensure that women are treated fairly and equally.
the world is still riddled with sexism and bias and it needs to be addressed, and though it will not really mean much to us in our lifetime, out kids kids etc will feel the benefit.
subconsciously these things affect out behaviour whether we like it or not, women are still viewed by many as second best in business and in life - and the worst kind of sexism and bias is the type that people arent even aware they have, because they can't and won't adress the problem.
having said all that, i will
