They can claim Incapacity Benefit as can any other person who is incapable of work. There is no automatic entitlement to Council Tax Benefit or Housing Benefit. They may have problems wi mobility or personal care so Disability Living Allowance could be also claimed. There is also the possibility they could claim Income Support.
Hiya PatH, my daughter lives next door to a couple of men both in their late forties, they are both alcoholics and get benefits, she knows this because once or twice their giros have come to her address by mistake, she didn't open them, but knew what they were. Plus the fact they are always at home sleeping till midday and off round the pub at 5pm ish, then back in the garden all night. The worrying thing is they both have powerfull motor bikes which they go out on obviously still tanked up. Ahh well there you go. I'm all for people who have an illness or disability getting all the help they can get ( there for the grace of God and all that ) but if people have an alcohol problem then surely they need help in the way of rehabilitation and not just picking up a giro every week to spend in the local Booze Buster.
Hi puss,Thanks for all the answers folks.. : ) Hi puss i know what you mean about scroungers whether it be from an illness like this post is about ,or benefit scroungers which ive posted before and got shot down in flames ... so il not go there..

THECORBYLOON. I have no ploblem at all that they get incapacity benefit they may have paid into the system I don't know. Can I just say that for 5 years I nursed my husband after a very severe stroke, he would never get better and yes he received benefits, but the men I am refereing to have been to my knowledge drinking themselves stupid for at least 8 years and not making any effort to stop. They need help, I know that, but are not making any effort to do this. This was my first husband bye the way, just in case anyone is confused.
