Heard to-day that milk prices will rise due to cows being fed on silage as all the rain had knackered grass or whatever.

Farmers cannot lose, instead of selling 10 bottles ar 50pence each, they sell one bottle for a fiver. It will be the same with spuds etc.

When was the last time a glut of whatever produce brought prices down.

We are ripped off in this country to some tune.

Again, Doc, I refuse to hold the farmers fully responsible for this. Before the extensive rain UK milk farmers were slowly being put out of business due to the low prices they're being paid for their milk. It's pretty much the same with most areas of farming these days.

We can blame the supermarkets, but actually they're only trying to meet consumer demand.

So you need to take some of the responsibility for this, mate.

Hands up Champers, I do not know the full picture.

Someone is not losing out somewhere though,
Farmers. Big time. We're seriously $crewing up our British Farming system and it's quite a concern. Pretty soon everything is going to be sourced from abroad, which means most of our produce will be chemically treated to keep it fresher for longer.

Some insight into milk farming alone:-

Very informative champers, I feel quite guitly now.

Sorry farmers.
Im the daughter of a farmer and I can tell you for a fact its not the customers or the farmers gaining. It is always the supermarkets pulling one over on the farmers.

Its not just the milk farmers they screw over, fruit and veg farmers get stuffed royally. If you want fantastic produce Doc, find out where your local farm shop is. You will only be able to buy fresh produce that is in season but its fantastic and local and you and the farmer dont get robbed.

How much is a pint of milk? 40p ish....... thats ****** all in relation to what actually happens to get that milk to get to your fridge.

Take your point goody, lots of farm shops round here, west yorks, will go tomorrow.
All I will say, and some people may not like it, is I have known quite a few farmers over the years, through foot and mouth, BSE, the Shoreham protests, the bloody French burning our live sheep etc BUT I have NEVER known a poor farmer. EVER!!!!
Well you dont mix in the right circles then Wardy. They on paper may own land and a lovely house but often what they have left is pittance. Especially now........ I doubt your area was effected much by foot and mouth but I know of 2 families that went totally bust, the poxy compensation was just not enough.

for their non poor lifestyle they tend to work at least 90 hours a week.
Doc for most farmers it ain't worth bothering with milking herds, blame the supermarkets not the farmers for milk prices
Tesco is the spawn of Satan. Walmart (owns Asda to name but one) is Satan Himself.
