But living, I'll go with the Queen or Michael Jackson.

Guys - you're quite wrong. HM Queen Elizabeth may well be hugely recognisable, but not in a lot of the world.

Who's the most famous living person? Possibly Michael Jackson or Tom Cruise.

the queen is recognisable in alot of the world, she is not recognised in a small part of the world.

There are no images of Mohammed because Islam forbids any likeness to be made of him (hence the cartoon riots).

I know a lot of people who don't know ANY of them! Who in Canada knows Cliff Richard? Just me prob. Gandhi, not likely. Becks? 25,000 people turned out to see him in Toronto, but soccer (footie) is not widely popular among Canadians, only the immigrants. English people seem more knowledgeable or things around the world. The world, not so much.

jno - although over 1.3 billion Chinese there are over 2 billion people in the Commonwealth.

Llamatron - I doubt that many people in China or Africa know Bush - after all he citizens of both countries are not particularly affected by him (in the same way that Europe is)

Yes but over half of them are Indian and I'm willing to bet that many Indians do not know and most do not care that they're even in the commonwealth.
