There is a lot more knife and gun crime now. What we have to do is accept this. Britain has changed. We can't lock up every 13yo caught with a gun or a knife. We can't imprison every 13yo murderer because we don't have enough prison space and it's probably a social deprivation problem anyway, and probably also my fault. What we must do, is to accept and announce that society in Britain has changed, and murder is now a norm. I am not joking. This is startling fact, innit.

maybe we should make the parents responsible for their kids behaviour, by billing them for police time and property damage....a few family lessons for the whole family to attend would probably be beneficial also.

I am deadly serious. Society must publicly acknowledge a shift. Knife and gun crime is now part of our life. We can't lock them up, so we have to cope somehow. An obvious approach is to divert more public money towards the socially deprived. Never mind about asking why they have no money, just give them more, from our taxes, stick a penny on income tax if need be.

I do interventions in families , even before the kids are born, right until the point they pass into the criminal justice system. 'Helping' the families is a non-starter, most of them don't get rules and boundaries, consequences etc, so why should the kids. And as to making the families pay , also a non-starter they are usually on benefit, so you might as well ask whiffey to take the money straight out of his pocket.
Not enough prison space, then build more, locking them up is the only way to keep society safe

in the states there is a rule whereas people on welfare have to find a job otherwise they lose their benefits.

why are they on benefits? they should be made to get a job and support themselves, sorry amonty but being on benefits doesnt mean you can live lawlessly. get a job or lose benefits. stop making it easy for these losers, they choose to be anti social, they choose to cause criminal damage they should expect to pay the consequences.

how about the yobs are forced to repair the damage, paint the walls clean up the mess ect...is that kid gloves enough for you?
