I don't see the problem, it's just marketing.
If there was a market for barbie in a nun's outfit, they'd make it, but there isn't.
I'm surpised you're not more worried that the makers of these dolls look to be about 10 years old!
Considering that Barbie originally stood for all that was capitalist in the USA ~ a career woman dressed to the nines surrounded by the ultimate in accessories, I do find it rather odd.

Sindy in the UK ~ now I could understand that. She was a home loving housewife without implants.
Coming soon....Osama Bin Barbie
And who can forget your namesake Pips? The Pippa doll was brilliant!
Oh of course..now she was one cool gal, although her knees used to collapse quite often!
lololol, there's a joke there somewhere Pippa, but I'll refrain.
Well done river, you are perpetuating the mass advertising and marketing media on behalf of Mattel Inc.

Incidentally, is there a Catholic Barbie? If there was, and she wasnt dressed like a nun what exactly would she be wearing so that you could determine she was Catholic Barbie? A Cross, a Crucufix? Wouldnt this then amount to more or less the same thing?

As said above, Mattel obviously think there is a market for it.
Oh go on BOO...let it all out :o) heh heh.

I happen to believe that Barbie is actually Jewish...in the 1950's/60's she certainly looked like a stereotypical Jewish mom!
Sorry, I thought it said "A rival for Barbie, the latest must have craze is a muslim doll for girls in indonesia"

Wheres the problem!!!!!!!!!!
I couldn't read the first link, but found this one which only mentions Barbie..not implying that this doll is a Mattel creation or not:

It was to rival a doll named "FULLA" started in Muslim countries.
will Barbie's Ken have a rucksack?
Ahhh, don't be such a baby . . . Jihad Barbie
I don't see a problem with it - these dolls are for the Indonesian market.

Traditional Barbie dolls reflects the trends and cultures of the western world - fashionable clothes, jewelery, accessories - everything familiar to the western girl.

Catholic girl wear jeans and nice clothes too, you know.
