Religious Nutter Colleague
30 Answers
I have a colleague who is very very religious - so religious in fact she once referred to On The Origin Of Species as 'that evil book'. She genuinely believes we are all descended from Adam & Eve. These are just a couple of examples of her religious nuttery - there are many many more.
Anyway, it transpires she has been shagging a colleague for the past two years.
Now I am fairly naive in the ways of religion/faith as I tend to think it is all a load of old hokum, but, can somebody please shed any light on how on the one hand somebody can be SO religious, yet on the other she is prepared to break one of the ten commandments (she's married by the way) and is prepared to break the vows she took before her Lord.
It strikes me that many religius people seem happy to bend or break their rules in order to fit in with their own particular circumstances.
All answers appreciated - because I fully intend to ask her how her adultery sits with her religion (I know, its none of my business, but she really is a bloody horrible woman who is always busying herself with other peoples business, so now its payback time!).

A lot of religious people are bigots and have a 'do as I say, not as I do attitude!'
You are right when you say that many religious people seem happy to bend or break their rules, look at the number of Catholic Priests who have been involved with women or who are peodophiles - and then sheltered by their own church!! Maybe, these people aren't really religious but use it as a front to carry on living as they wish to live, without fear of reproach as they are 'good ' on the surface!

Firstly know your facts. How did this information transpire?
Secondly, ask yourself whether it is really worth getting into religious debate with someone you have such little regard for.
Thirdly, accept that she may well tell you to eff off and mind your own.
You could always recommend confesion to her, but if you are not religiously inclined, then it would seem trite for you to tell her how to conduct her personal business.

She was brazen - there had been some conjecture around the office as there have been many many signs that something was going on (whilst I noticed many of the signs, I was naive enough to believe that because she is so religious she was just being friendly to her shag piece).
The office received an email (we are not a huge office) and this is verbatim;
"To avoid any further speculation and idle gossip, John and I are seeing each other and have been for some time.
This is a personal matter and therefore we would appreciate our privacy being respected"
Now, seriously, I can't let this lie, can I? I won't harp on about it to her, I don't even care who or what she shags, but for somebody who is so bloody pious surely she deserves a bit of a hard time, doesn't she?

Aye she probably does deserve a bit of mick taking to my twisted little way of thinking because she sounds like the sort of person who would annoy the tits off me...
However I don't think you should. It's not worth it to you or her so unless you're in a situation where she hands the discussion to you on a plate it might be better to just keep your opinion to yourself. It doesn't benefit anyone.(Also if she's very religious she might not believe in divorce but could be seperated from husband?)
Turn the other cheek and all that I guess.

It's a free country so she's entitled to her beliefs and behaviour the same as you. If you don't share her religion then it's a fair bet you don't know a lot about it. So live and let live.
It's interesting that in every language on the planet there are many, many words to describe a woman who has many partners - all of them are derogatory. There are very, very few to describe such a man - and they are macho ... stud, stag, stallion ...
If you're about to be a bloody nuisance, then my sympathies are with her.

It all sounds a bit too much like the schoolyard to me, flip flop, although I do understand your anger in the face of what appears to be blatant hyprocrisy on your colleagues part. But what do you hope to gain. Will it make you feel smug and superior? Does that make you any better than your poor unfortunate victim?
Because that's what she is. You've set yourself up as judge jury and executioner - so who is the better person, you or her?
If, and it is a big if, this woman if actually a Christian, then she will get her just desserts eventually - without any help from you, so best leave it alone and at best feel sorry for her.

Matyda - I think it's not the woman that is being judged but her actions which appear to fly in the face of what she believes and from the sounds of things has been preaching around the office. I don't think anyone is worried about how many people she may or may not have slept with. It's the context of the situation.
It is entirely about the fact that it is a woman - if it were a man it would be more like "lucky b######", and few would mention "morals".
Reading the pious and self-righteous comments here make me wonder who exactly is the "religious nutter"!
Maybe show your mother (or girlfriend or wife) this thread ... making it clear which are your views?
It's not just the woman that's demonstrating hypocracy here.

It completely isn't.
Flip's has said that he doens't like the woman and the reason is because she preaches her religion. She is commiting adultery whcih is a sin in most religions and he is fantising about using it although he's already said he's not going to.
If it was a bloke cheating on his wife who was also very relious and a bit of a tw@t I would imagine he'd come in for the same treatment. In fact I think if it was a bloke they'd more likely to have something said to them.
No one is worried about how many people she has slpet with, no one is calling her a ****, it's just the religious hypocracy that people have an issue with.
If Flips had started a thread saying this bird is having an affair what a **** I might have something to say about it. But he didn't.... he'd just like to get his own abck on an annoying woman. Possibly childish but we've all thought that once or twice when someone has annoyed us.
