What's the most difficult regional accent to understand? (restricting the question to the UK & Ireland.)
Ok, the Norn Irish crowd all talk like "durdle durdle durdle dur sicheeashun" (always get the word 'situation' in there), we in the south all sound like Darby O'Gill, and the Brummies don't speak English, but where did the Geordies get that accent? They get my vote.
I think each region/city has a regional way of talking using words which are common only to that area.
Dundee -thats classic Dundee BTW -lol - using words that us lot who live around there would get but in general Dundonians dont all talk like that.
Same goes with Glaswegians -I struggle with some at times but generally again some of the most refined accents are from Glasgow. Not everyones a Rab C there -lol
I honestly dont have a problem with accents -just try to make the effort to perhaps listen more carefully -I do have problems with regional dialects tho.
I try to slow down when I am on the phone and speak clearly -some pople just cant be bothered to even attempt to understand you when they hear a Scottish accent -thats just ignorance tho.
