Is it just me? How come nowadays, in order to prove how comitted you are to something, you have to give at LEAST 110%!! I've heard people offering to give 150% on the apprentice, even 200% in some instances! I'm glad I'm not after the same job, as my offer of 100% committment would seem pretty lame! It's driving me mad! It doesn't help my kids, when they're told by their maths teacher that you can never have more than 100% of anything, and then some thicko on the telly says "Well, I did my best, I gave it 140%" !
What annoys me is when folk say something is, for example, tens times less than it was before or A is ten times less likely to happen than B. What they mean is it's a tenth of what it was and B is ten times more likely than A..
Personally I think it makes someone look like a numpty.
I often say to my team that I need full (or 100%) commitment to get this done etc, if I turned to them and said I need 140% I am quite sure they would think I was a knob. It is more or less saying that their usual 100% is below par.
100% would seem sufficient in capacity for anyone with even a little attention span.
