I'm organising a stag do to Newcastle, and have a query - is it the kind of place where we can go out in fancy dress and have with the locals, or are we likely to get negative reactions?

I live there. Don't forget your Gum-Shields and bullet/Knife proof vests. Most of the Pubs have chairs with Tatoos on their arms, they are that rough!! I would recommend Tynemouth instead.!!

You'll be fine!
I used to live there and believe me, you'd not be better off at the coast. Most weekends out you'll see some stag or hen do's, sometimes in fancy dress. Generally there's only trouble when people get wasted. Don't go absolutely mad with you drinks and you should be fine. There's loads of places to go to as well, so if you get turned away one place you'll probably get in somewhere else.

Thanks for your replies guys. Feel a bit happier about it now. Unsureme - I'm hoping that was sarcasm. ha ha!
Well, I'm going out in Newcastle on Thursday in a full tuxedo complete with cravat.

Perhaps I'll be over dressed?

Never mind

haha
I WAS only joking!! Seriously,if you stick to the Bigg Market,The Gate and The Quayside you will have a great time, although the Quayside seems to have died off a little bit. Hope everything goes well for you and best of luck to whoever's getting hitched.!!
You'll be fine if you dress up as Maggie Thatcher circa. 1984, in Sunderland shirts.
