Why is it - that when we burp, we are inclined to say - "Oops, pardon me" - or perhaps - "excuse me" - and yet if we happen to 'pass wind' (or, to put it bluntly - Fart) we laugh ?

Possibly because a burp is transitory and an apology means that it's 'over and done with'.

Whereas a fart makes its presence known for quite some time. It would be ridiculous to keep saying "Sorry, sorry, sorry,. . " for several minutes until the smell disappeared, so it's easier to try to laugh it off.

Chris
Because, and I'll brook no argument on this, farting is funny.
Well I've been told it tickles . . . don't it?

Butt usually the only one laughing is the one who is exhaling that is, unless there's more to it than just gas
The queen doesnt fart,or has anybody heard her?
Excellent, Mibn!
i think it depends who you are with.if i farted with people i didnt know well i would b embarrassed but when i am with my partner and i fart i laugh my socks off but still excuse myself.burps just happen but for some reason farts are hilarious.although if i do a huge burp which i am prone to when i am with my partner i laugh too.childish i admit but life cant be all serious :-D
These are just social thing. In few countries it is completely other way around.
