The Battle of Ventnor
4 Answers
Thought I'd share this.
I asked a youngster in the office (well, I say youngster, he is 28, so only 10 years younger than I am) this morning where another one of our colleagues has gone on holiday.
Conversation went like this;
Me: Where's John gone on holiday?
Him: He's gone to the Isle of Wight.
Me: Nice, I haven't been there since I was a kid - what's he up to.
Him: He's doing a tour of the 1st World War battlefields.
Me: Oh. Are you quite sure he's gone to the Isle of Wight and not France.
Him: No, definitely the Isle of Wight.
Me: OK, right, I'm off for a coffee (turns away quickly).
I must've missed the famous Battle of Ventnor!
Now, I accept the above probably comes across as a bit smug and superior - its not meant to - but genuinely, I was a little shocked.
