Now that it's all out in the open - does anyone else think we should now tackle the question of local councillors expenses? After all most of them have other occupations but seem to earn more from expenses than most folks get as a living wage!!!!!

Don't know about your local council, but my local councillors get about �5000 a year expenses - which they have to pay tax on.

Bear in mind that they don't get a wage, if you counted the number of meetings you went to, it would be less than minimum wage.

If they are "expenses" vic then by definition they don't have to pay tax, come on get with the program.

In reality it's snouts in the trough from top to bottom. I know several councillors and they all think they desrve public money, bowlocks, the public sector is a home for those with no talent to sponge off the tax payer.

From PM to council snotty they are all the same, just give them a kin salary and no exes, end of.

Everyone knows local democracy is a illusion. Just pay some decent administrators to run the town.

Take Bournemouth, we have 50+ of the J Arthurs I know several of them personally, they could'nt run a bath between them, Id rather get a dozen proper guys in on proper dosh to run the town.

Just got a leaflet from the Labour guy promising gawd knows how many new jobs he's going to create, that's what we are up against!

my local council have always published the councillors expenses so have had nothing to hide.............

Great thing about Geezers arguments is they always seem to be based on opinion, cynicism personal experience.

So it's conveniently difficult to dispute the facts because there never are any

Where I live there are 50 and they're rubbish, Some Labour Guys gonna cost us a fortune and be rubbish

Well i know several councillors - in fact I was approached to run for council locally. All the ones I know have one thing in common - they all love the town we live in and want to see the place thrive.

They make decisions that they feel are best for the town and community.

And guess what - just like anyone else, they get things wrong.

As I said originally, I personally trust most of the ones I know - from both Labour & Conservative sides (there is no Lib Dem or other party presence here).
