I'm being made redundant tomorrow after 12 years. I'll probably chill out til after christmas but if anyone has any suggestions how to get back on my feet thereafter I shall give them a lot of thought. Any help appreciated, cheers.

I was made redundant about this time 14 years ago - a much better time than now I know.
It still took me quite a few months to get back working again - I think some people have a bit of a prejudice that firms let their least valuable assets go first, so if the entire firm or site has gone make sure you say so.
Also I ended up taking contract positions before I was oferred permanent which at the time was very profitable - so don't overlook this

First of all as others said, I am sorry to hear that too. Then as Eddie asked, what do you do? I was made redundant at the end of January 2009. Although I was only with that firm for just over a year then but all together I have had about 13 years experience as accountant in practice. So I thought about every possibility. One thing did give me a mental satisfaction as I believe when one door closes then ten more doors of opportunity open up (again faith thing). So in the end I started my own practice and arranged my office in the annexe at the back of my home. I already had few clients, got few new and number is still increasing, as even businesses are looking for affordable accountants and tax advisers due to tight financial circumstances so I guess I am OK. Now I have home cooked lunch, tea & coffee. So come on and be positive as good or bad, time never stays same forever.
I work in security system installation. We lost a lot of people in june and this time around there was 3 of us let go out of 6. I don't really know whether or not to try and find work of the same type or to try and do something different. To be honest I sort of fell into the job. One day 15 years ago I went to a training centre, within half an hour I'd chosen to do electronics and less than a year later I was in this job. I've never really found anything that I'd like to really make a career out of and never really cared for my job. I've just always had the attitude, a job's a job. Unfortunately.
