Robbed of benefit

Made redundant 21 months ago I was lucky to receive a good lumpsum and a pension of£640p.m as I,m under 60 I went to the job centre to sign on.They said you can sign on but you can't have any job- seekers allowance because your pension is too high (more than jsa) I argued I've paid in to the system for 43yrs,so now I want some back,it doesn't work that way they said (two appeals turned down) For the purposes of receiving adult education free (learning a language) if I tick the boxes that say unemployed(true) and receiving benefits(not true) what are the chances /consequences of bieng sussed?

Well, basically you have 2 scenarios here:~
1. You say you ARE getting JSA,the college schecks and informs you of their findings.End of education, unless you choose to pay.
2. You lie on the form, nobody checks and you get away with it (you think).
However, you might think you are OK, and then the college eventually finds out & will require you to repay the cost once they know that you are NOT gettin JSA
3,You bluff it out and are lucky(this is the least possible).
So really it's a matter of having a go, BUT as far as I am aware the college would require you to provide some concrete evedince(such as a letter showing how much JSA you are getting from the DWP) before you get the free education you seek.
I wish you well, but personally don't hold out much hope.
Sorry!

I think Mr Veritas is, alas, quite correct.
To qualify for these “free” services you have to be in receipt of benefits. The receipt of benefits is the key to a door behind which lies untold riches. As soon as you qualify for benefits you’re given this key and then virtually all your income becomes pocket money.
Of course with such vast wealth (!) Dinger will not qualify for the key. Having worked all his life and contributed enormous sums in taxes and National Insurance, JSA is not available for him, even though he is probably seeking a job far more vigorously than many who are professional “Jobseekers”.
My Advice – get a cheap SqeezyJet return ticket to somewhere nice. Have a pleasant night or two in a hotel abroad, but don’t wash or shave whilst you’re there. On the trip back flush your passport and any other papers which might identify you down the kharzi. Declare yourself as an asylum seeker on your return. You’ll be given a ticket to Croydon, and in due course a free council flat, benefits, and access to all the “free” services you want. Oh, and you’ll probably be able to get a little job on the side washing cars or working for the immigration authority (cash in hand, natch) to supplement your income.
Yes, I’m exaggerating, but, unfortunately, only half joking.
