I have heard some Korean neighbours chanting in their garden and then clapping their hands, a sort of wailing sound. What is this tradition ?? At least I hope its a tradition, otherwise I haven't got any idea what on earth they are doing ...

A surprising number of South Koreans are Christian, (30 to 35%). Maybe it's a gospel choir? ;-)
Could be some buddist ceremony going on.
Are they Buddhists? why don't you ask them, say you were interested as you've not seen it before?
I would ask them too. It sounds very interesting. I am nosey like that.
has someone died ?

I dont like to interfere! they seem like very quiet elderly people, I wondered if it was just some sort of Korean religious ritual. I know clapping hands can mean getting rid of negativity, but the funny singing just made me wonder !
