How to prove a convicted sex offender in order to report them to facebook?
26 Answers
Hello, I am currently trying to report a convicted sex offender to facebook. However, they will not even look over the report unless I can provide documentation proving that they are, as stated - a convicted sex offender.
Documentation can be either:
*a link to a listing in a national sex offender registry
*a link to an online news article
*court document uploaded to their form
Now. If I wanted to get my hands on the original court transcript, it was going to cost me £350, so I haven't got it. I don't have anything else that could be used. The uk sex offenders register is unavailable to the public, and the story wasn't in the news.. What can I do? I know that this man is who he is because my sister has had contact with him via his facebook profile.
He was convicted in 2008, is on the sex offenders register for 5 years.. HOW can I prove this to facebook?!

Unfortunately there were no newspaper reports about the story and I've searched all over the internet to no avail. I have a couple of statements on my PC but they aren't signed and were from pre-conviction so would be useless to prove that he WAS convicted!
I will add that he is a paedophile. but also other charges were put against him which brought him to become a convicted sex offender. Facebook should make this process a lot easier :(
Will call the police now, thank you everyone!

If they did people would be getting others facebook accounts suspended out of spite, they have to insist on some sort of proof.
(I'm in no way saying that you are trying to get an account suspended through spite BTW, just pointing out what the result would be if it were too easy)

ChuckFickens - what I meant by that, is that I'd have thought facebook might have access to the relevant information to be able to identify convicted sex offenders with some information requested. ie, I can give them a name, an address and a case reference number, which I would have thought would take them to the relevant 'bit' in the sex offenders register.
However, it won't even let me proceed and submit the report form without either a link to the information I posted in my original post, or documentation. So I can't even put forward that I DO know but I don't have the docs.. does that make sense?
Ummmm - I think big websites such as facebook can trace users via their ISP or.. some number thingy which links to your interwebz connection, and PC's which you've logged onto the site via, so if they were to sign up as a different user, it would still link back to their PC.
I've just called the police, the contact centre have taken down loads of info and are going to get in touch with the police that were initially involved in the case and then they'll either get in touch with me for more info, or will go straight to facebook.
HORRAH! Thank you everyone :) Useful post for others who are looking for this info too - CALL THE POLICE!
