Why does John Bercow speak as if everything he says is being chiselled into stone?

Because he knows he knows he is a man promoted well above his abilities - a slap to Labour for their Michael martin and the disasterous hash he made of the role.

Speaker Bercow typically compensastes for his insecurities, by trying (and failing) to develop a degree of gravitas that befits his position - if not himself personally.

It was Labour who championed Bercow because they knew he got right up the Tories' noses.

Pompous little man, he's trying to make up for his lack of height, and obviously not good enough for his job. I hope they get rid of him soon.

I like him, but maybe that's just because ANYONE who "gets right up Tory noses" is obviously good news!

He's my local MP and I've met him on a few occasions.

On the plus side he's a really good constituancy MP - is heavilly involved in the local community and on a number of occasions has severly put him self out to attend local events that he could easilly have ducked out of.

On the negative side he is a particularly dull speaker - tends to repeat his joke repertoire and does go on.

Have him as an MP rather than a dinner party guest!

Probably a better speaker than speech maker.
