Why do we pamper drug addicts? They chose to start taking the stuff in the first place. Instead of prescribing them methodone to try wean them off, why not just lock them in a padded cell for a few days with basic food and water. They would soon be off the habit.

Yes...good idea..!!!! Not..
A third world kibutz type camp where they could work for keep till they were 'clean' might be the answer ?
How about help...to sort out the problems they are trying to blot out?
I agree that sometimes , people turn to drugs as a way out to escape problems, but not every drug addicts addiction start, because of problems, some take it through choice,
Not everyone who takes drugs has a 'problem'! The only problem is the cost to the nhs to sort them out and why bother with a padded cell? A normal cell would do.
So you'd punish the ones with genuine issues...
yes good idea, lock them away and forget about them...
Withdrawing from heroin or alcohol without the proper medication and attention can kill.
I do agree that methadone shouldn't be prescribed as it is addictive in itself. I know a heroin addict who has been on methadone for longer than he took heroin for.

People with spots ?
How, exactly do 'we' (and who is that ?) pamper drug addicts ?
why do people turn to drugs or drink as a way of escape?, Instead of seeking help?.
A quick fix to the problem do you think ?
or is it just an excuse to not face reality, and tackle the problems head on ?

Maybe because they are encouraged to heave a 'stiff upper lip' and 'get on with things'. Maybe it's in us to think we can get by,on our own. It's not easy to ask for help.
