Anti Thatcher sentiments
19 Answers
I have a few friends on FB that 'lean to the left' and often post ant-thatcher comments etc.
What I really dont understand why they can be so cruel into wishing her death and the evil things they put about her - this from supposedly intelligent people.
Theres a few people in the world of politics that I dont agree with, but I cant honestly say I wish death upon them or feel the tendency to spit vitriolic curses in their direction.
I've not witnessed despots 'in my day' such as Bin Laden, Saddam Hussien, Pinochet, Milosevic receive such hatred; Why is such sentiment reserved only for Thatcher? I think we're all aware of her shortcomings as a PM, but really?

Scargill was all geared up to take on Callaghans goverment when he was voted out.
What Scargill wanted to do, was take on the goverment, whoever it was..
As for the Printers, they brought it on themselves also, but that was more Murdoch than Thatcher, although she tends to get the blame.
As you say, there are people who say they wish her dead, all I can say to that, is if there are any who read this thread, please say why, because I'm sure they woudn't like it if someone said they wish he/she were dead.

lefties hate her because she showed socialism cannot work and crushed the unions, the main purveyors of socialism. Since then every school teacher has been brainwashing the kids with Anti Thatcher Bile. Most of your friends would have no experience of what it was like in the 60's and 70's and have been brainwashed by lefty teachers who could not stand the fact she swept aside their flawed ideology. I had the misfortune to grow up when the Unions were turning us into a Soviet outpost and the equal good fortune to be around when Maggie saved us all and crushed the union scum. Even her own side doubted her but she swept all before her, well done Maggie, by far our greatest peace time leader. Cue lefty cobblers..........
When my parents got married at the beginning of the second world they couldn't afford to buy a house and had to rent rooms as there was a shortage of housing owing to the german bombing. When emergency housing was built they got a council prefab and were thus condemmed to council house accommodation for the rest of their lives. That is until Margaret Thatcher enabled them to buy their council house, giving them self respect and enabling them to maintain their house better than the council did. At the same time no-one was deprived of a house through this action.
Margaret Thatcher actually improved the lot of the working classes and made them less dependant on the state. Something that a lot of 'socialists' who never had to live in a council house under council control and almost unable to move do not appreciate.

I am planning a few beers to celebrate when she snuffs it.
She created a climate of selfishness and greed in this country that we have never recovered from as well as putting many people out of work, ruining communities and peoples lived.
I felt no pride when she was PM, only hatred for her and everything she stands for. When she is gone the world will be a happier place

She was out to get the miners from the beginning so I don't think the stroke resulted in the closures, they were planned anyway.
And a lot of the working class areas of the Yorkshire minefields that I know have never recovered either their prosperity, though they never lost their pride that they had fought for their jobs and communities

The pits were going to close because we were getting our coal from Poland this coal was highly subsidized by the Polish government to keep people in work.
You have a problem with people having a go at Maggie but it is just the same with the right wing mob on here saying things like << and crushed the union scum. >>

I never voted for Thatcher, there was a lot I didn't agree with but to this day I've got to thank her for 'The Right to Buy' we lived in a council house on a grotty estate, we bought that house and later sold it to get off that estate. here we are years later secure in the thought that if it wasn't for TRTB we'd still be on that grotty estate in the now downtrodden town.
