Calling All Intelligent People
92 Answers
There are a lot of people on here who appear extremely intelligent and not just knowledged up on one particular subject but people who have a huge amount of factual information on many different, that they clearly haven't just copied and pasted from Google. So, how do you become to be so intelligent?

Even though I enjoy progammes such as University Challenge and Mastermind, they are more about knowledge and the ability to retain arcane information in some instances than intelligence. (I am full of useless information by the way!)
IQ is somewhat redundant now as illustrated by my ex and I who had virtually the same IQ - I was far more mathematically/spatially driven than she is, her verbal skills being much more powerful. This reflected at GMAT (Bus-School admission test) where I scored 100% on the numerical reasoning and 85% on verbal..... It is also reflected by one of my children who is innately intelligent - all sorts of tests run have proved this but has a short-term memory retention problem - she can read but can't remember - for example, she loved doing basic algebra aged six, but put a ten line problem in front of her she struggles as her brain has forgotten relevant information at the top of the paragraph. Remedy has been lots of reading to help make the wiring drop into place and then she can use coloured markers on her text books.
This is perhaps my side of the family as my father's cousin seemed to have a similar issue and was considered the school thicko and then, bingo, aged 16 the wiring dropped into place and he gained a full scholarship to Cambridge.
One more thing, books, books, books, listen, listen, listen - and to which I will add travel, travel and travel. Curiosity never killed the cat in talking with folks and observing.

For goodness sake. I haven't had a chance to read through all the threads since my last post but will do shortly. I appreciate most the feedback and suggestions I have come accross so far, it's been a really interesting conversation for me so if we could please try to keep it to that, I would be greatful.
Will read all the other posts in a bit and be back. Thanks!

I don't know what is meant by intelligence. For instance there is a young lad who comes to my house - I let him use the workshop - and he can hardly read or write. He played truant constantly and skipped every lesson he could. However, give him some tools, and some bicycle parts and before you can say Jack Robinson he has a complete bicycle ready to ride. I have no idea how he does it, and I don't think he has but he has that talent so he must be intelligent in some kind of way.
Also, IQ is just a measure of what you could achieve if you felt like it. What is the use of having an IQ of 160 and being an idle sod who can't be bothered to do anything?
I haven't joined this thread because I think I am intelligent, but because I am nosy and wondered what other people had made of it.
