Well said Chakka!!
It is perfectly natural to say something like 'please god, help me'. I have done it myself - more of a cry for help than actually calling on a god. I don't personally believe in a God. No different from saying a plain 'please help me' when we are in distress. The word 'God' is used automatically, such as saying "Oh my God", when we are told of something awful or something which surprises us.

I don't think for one minute that all the people crying for god on battlefields suddently became religious in their hour of need. They were just crying out.
Quod erat demostrandum.
"Atheists are rational people, no more to be persuaded by stories of ancient gods than they are by stories of unicorns and fortune-tellers.

Religionists are not rational and are therefore immune to fact, evidence, argument, logic and commonsense. "

That's a pretty broad statement. I'd say there are plenty of irrational atheists and plenty of rational theists. When you start talking in absolutes then your logic is most likely flawed.
I don't know about praying but there are plenty of people who, in the face of imminent demise or desperation to clutch onto any possible hope, seem to call or talk to God.
Of course they do, but they never accept once things get better.
No Keyplus, your living in a different and sad world, some of us are realistic, your God and no other God has done nothing but cause misery, torture, death and suffering.

As a Muslim I know you could never accept that, way too brainwashed to see sense.
whoaaaaaa..let's not get heavy ratters....
Say it as it is!!!
Alway have an eachway bet if you can
never ...ever!!
Chris1957, "Always have an each way bet if you can" isn't that just a little hypocritical?
