Hi... my friend has been dating an egyptian muslim for a few months (she is english n non religious), she thought he might be married because he can only see her once a week. But now he wants her to marry him, so that it is not wrong in his gods eyes. To me it sounds crazy... he has told her they do not have to get married in a register office or anything, she and him just have to sign a document alone and she can keep it... just so he will know he is not doing anything wrong when it comes down to the bedroom department (which they have already done anyway). I don't know anything about islamic marriage... but... i have heard of scams and things. So was wondering if any of u know about scams to do with islamic marriage... for example, so he can have a few wives or maybe a uk citizenship? He might want to marry her for those reasons but if he doesn't... want other reasons could he be wanting to marry her for? Thanks in advance

If she's living in the UK she can sign the document if she wants to, but it won't mean she's married and it won't have any legal sway at all.
It certainly wouldn't get him a UK citizenship.

He could be doing it to stop her nagging.
A document signed by them without witnesses hardly constitutes a marriage. Islamic, or otherwise.
Pixi, even then it would have no legal force.
A Muslim wedding still has to go through a civil ceremony by a registrar to be legal.
pix would it be legal in England though?

I agree with what Pixi said. They will have to marry (Nikkah) in the presence of two witnesses. But as Islamic marriage is not recognised by English (British) law then they will have to get registered if they want to be legally married couple in the eyes of law of the land. However if they are not worried about legal aspect as far as country is concerned because under british law it is not necessary to marry and you may still live together then Nikkah is enough and necessary as without that its adultry.

But on personal note I hope he should have thought about it earlier.
Is fornication a great sin in the view of Islamic people?
Of course it is.
forgetting the marriage aspect, i would advise her not to sign any documents regardless.
If he was such a staunch Muslim he wouldn't be sh@gging her. Tell him to take a hike.
Two things come to my nasty suspicious mind

First, it might be her pushing for a "marriage" not him, and this is his way of keeping her happy while maintaining his bedroom access.

Second, if she signs something which is in a language she does not speak or read, she could be signing up to anything. For example, being the guarantor for a loan or agreeing to become the company secretary of a company which is running a scam and ripping people off, both of which could have unpleasant consequences for her.

Her best bet is to sign nothing, let him deal with his own conscience as best he may, and, if he decides to end it, move on and find someone who isn't going to insist on her signing bits of paper to assuage his conscience.

In UK Nikkah (marriage) certificates are in English. Usually you have verse from Holy Quran which talks about Nikkah on the top. Or could be any related verse from it.

It sounds like suspicious nonsense. Advise her to dump him.
Clearly it's a scam of one sort or another. Since they have already had sex, the argument that he's making that marriage will make it okay with God is utterly absurd. I would advise you to tell your friend not to sign anything whatsoever.
If he was really a practising Muslim he would only marry another Muslim so definitely an excuse
"Is fornication a great sin in the view of Islamic people?" Yes, but only for women.
She should get out, now.
