Mormon Callers

Two very personable young mormon men have just called at our door. Whilst I did not engage with them in respect to their religion I cannot help but admire them & Jehovah's Witnesses for calling in this way They must get so many refusals and even abuse but they still continue to call.

I realise that people do feel that they are intruding but I cannot be rude to them

How do other people feel

Thank you askyour gran & dr b - that is how I felt and did feel like asking them in because like you I felt for them being away form home and knocking on doors in line with their beliefs and having them shut time after time after time. It is reassuring dr b that they do go home better for the experience

We don't often get JW's, or door knockers of any kind come to that, perhaps the very large hairy GSD lying on the drive puts them off

Give me 1000 JW or Mormons to one rioter any day.

Ratter15: My point was that with regard to JWs they will answer your questions and in fact welcome questions. You can be assured they are very interested in what interests you especially with regard to the Bible. But you have to be prepared for them to come back especially if they cannot answer a question at that moment - they go and do research and will come back with an answer. I know - been there.

Butterflies, they only answer questions they are happy with, they skirt around an awful lot of questions, they are more like politicians They cant wait to get out of my house, and thats before they have met the dogs!! they don't rush back either, same with JW.

They are pleasant so I just say that I'm not interested in a nice way. I have a slightly different attitude to door to door sales-persons though who are pushy.

Found myself in Salt lake city once and read a bit of the book of mormon - you really should if you haven't - it's a real laugh!

Think Old testament replanted in the US.

American indians are a lost tribe of Israel running about the place with Horses and chariots and all sorts of anachronistic stuff.

And this is known because an Angel showed this Joseph Smith guy golden plates which had this written on. He gave them back of course.

This is really incredibly unconvincing stuff but it does fulfill an American need to feel religously special but in my book it remains one of the most bizaare mainsteam faiths

Ratter15: Sorry - I can't agree with you on that point. Mormons will go round the 'mulberry bush' at least that's been my experience with them. But JWs will give you an answer and will return again and again. The more questions you have the more they will come back.
