The early Christians were persecuted, even as Jesus had been. (John 15:20; 17:14) Historian John L. von Mosheim called first-century Christians “a set of men of the most harmless inoffensive character, who never harboured in their minds a wish or thought inimical to the welfare of the state.” Dr. Mosheim stated that what “irritated the Romans against the Christians, was the simplicity of their worship, which resembled in nothing the sacred rites of any other people.” He added: “They had no sacrifices, temples, images, oracles, or sacerdotal orders; and this was sufficient to bring upon them the reproaches of an ignorant multitude, who imagined that there could be no religion without these. Thus they were looked upon as a sort of atheists; and, by the Roman laws, those who were chargeable with atheism were declared the pests of human society.”

I am now going to argue this point as do those of religion:

This is totaly wrong, totaly. This is what I believe and nothing you can say will change my mid however give you incontravertable proof that its wrong, however, goodlife, you are not clever enough or amenable enough to accept it so i shall not bother putting and mor answers up.

So there.
haha dave nice one
and man is violent by nature so needs to kill things?

greedy by nature

Selfish by nature

We often reach our personal pinnacle not by giving in to our nature but by resisting it

Wouldn't you say?
Dave, you might want to check over your posts a couple of times before hitting the Submit button, especially when you're accusing people of not being clever enough...
so a Christian is now using evidence to support their argument!?! Am I still asleep, is someone playing a trick on me!?!
How can someone be religious by nature? Surely what you're describing is obsessive, and yes some are to different degrees, and in most circumstances high levels of obsession can be destructive.
A moral code is present in all human societies. Whether they wish to admit it or not, all peoples feel a need for a guiding force above and beyond themselves. They instinctively look to a higher power to worship or serve. It may be the sun, the moon, a star, a mountain, a river, an animal, a man, or an organization. Their moral code may be set forth in one of the many sacred writings of different cultures. The need is found in people everywhere. It is instinctive in man.
I read this quote recently in a magazine and I feel it sums it all up
Quote [Dr. Kevin S. Seybold calls it “the seemingly universal tendency of humans to worship something.” ]
Right up to the point where the scales fall from their eyes and they realise that all that they need to rely upon is contained within their own cranium...
//Yes, there is every reason to continue the search for the true God. //

There is indeed, because you've yet to find it.
if there was such a god or this "almighty power" bad things wouldnt happen to people
And with all due respect to psychiatrist Stafford-Clark who says of those who argue in favour of atheism:

“The passion with which they will defend this . . . is yet further vivid evidence of the emotional necessity of belief" .............

........now how can I put this? Oh yes, I know. Cobblers!
Mark I would but i'm at work, however as intelligence never comes into it, I will just roll along with the crowd.

When someone actually wishes to be serious and not a troll I may feel that its worth my time to bother.
sorry that's the Theist crowd not the Atheist crowd
The Romans loved new religions, and there were lots of them around.

Few Romans could embrace Judaism, as it neccessitated adult circumcision!

Christianity offered the Abrahamic tradition, with a charismatic leader and the force of a new movement.

no wonder the established Jewish authorities were fiercely opposed, and fomented the persecution.
Hi Dave - for the record, Mark and I are members of Mensa
That should be good for a bit more persecution - bring it on!
