On one hand you have the many millions or maybe billions of those that follow religions who's roots have questionable beginnings, motives and practices.

On the other hand you have millions or maybe billions that are oblivvious to the fact that we just didn't appear out of a cloud of gas and there is indeed a higher power, race or god if you will.

Where is the middle ground if there is a middle ground?

"billions that are oblivvious to the fact that we just didn't appear out of a cloud of gas"

Fact eh. You have proof ?
the people in para 1 sound the same as the people in para 2.

you created a new user name just to ask that ?
I think a lot of people occupy this middle ground by saying that they dont actually know where we originated or how.

Old geezer do i really need proof? Look around you, why are we the only planet that had just the right reasons for life and no where else does?

Ratter that's just blind ignorance isn't it? It's human nature to have a mystery presented before us and to try and work it out, if that puzzle consists of our very being and origin then more the reason to ask questions and get involved no?
"why are we the only planet that had just the right reasons for life and no where else does?"

Why after a rainfall does a puddle exactly fit into the indentation in the pavement ? What are the odds it would be exactly the right shape and size ?

How do you know there is not life elsewhere int he universe ?

"//you created a new user name just to ask that ? //

I think you'll agree that this question carries more sway than a first question about weeing in a cupboard or why people are called Andrew or freddie.

Oldgeezer it would be wonderful and i'd like to really believe but the unlikelyhood of life and the lack of proof tells me otherwise.
I sincerely hope i'm proved wrong one day, but i seriously doubt that
Morgan_s, //why are we the only planet that had just the right reasons for life and no where else does? //

That's conjecture - and, for some, wishful thinking. We have no idea if the earth is the only planet to harbour life. I very much doubt it.

// It's human nature to have a mystery presented before us and to try and work it out, if that puzzle consists of our very being and origin then more the reason to ask questions and get involved no?//

It's human nature to be curious, but it's not reasonable to attribute the unknown to the unproven, ie 'I don't know how it happened so God must have dunnit!'
"why are we the only planet that had just the right reasons for life and no where else does?"

who is to say that in the last 4.5 billion years that life on other planets in our solar system han't evolved and gone extinct, or is in the process of evolving? the only thing we know is that our planet had just the right reasons for the existence of life that we can see around us.

Naomi do you actually believe that there are advanced lifeforms out there?

Why have they not found us yet or do you think that maybe the universe is so big that we all whizz by each other oblivious to the many planets and spacecraft harbouring life?
Strange how you deny there's life elsewhere in the universe because there's a lack of proof but believe in a supreme being where there is also no proof.

Ignorant! maybe, ive been called worse. I dont know for sure how the world was created but im damned sure it wasnt bye your so called God, to believe it was created by a God really is ignorant!!
//the unlikelyhood of life and the lack of proof tells me otherwise.//

That's ridiculously short-sighted. Forgetting the rest of the universe, there are estimated to be billions of planets in our galaxy alone. How far have we ventured? How much of it have we explored?

//Naomi do you actually believe that there are advanced lifeforms out there?//

Yes, I do.
Question Author
Vulcan because the universe is so immense many can get away with the notion that on a far flung "Corner" of the universe there are alien lifeforms just on account that we'll never no, this is not conclusive proof.

The fact is we're here, we were somehow put on here by something or bysomeone for unkown reasons.
why do we have to know everything? Is it not acceptable to say we don't know?
Again I'll use this as an example of how religion is the epitome of arrogance; I don't know the answer so I'll make one up and believe that completely.. even if it doesn't make sense, I'll know that that is the answer. The religious believe that we, as humans, are far, far more important in the grand scheme of the universe than we actually are. Why would aliens want to visit us, maybe there are far more interesting planets with far more interesting beings than ours that they have observed and have preferred to visit.
Question Author
Naomi, where are then? We talk to animals, insects even plants. Wouldn't these lifeforms want to talk to us? Why not?

Paul, as above
I think you're relying in sci-fi for your opinion of alien beings. If we can't travel any further than our moon.. maybe soon our closest neighbouring planet, why should they be able to travel millions of light years to visit us, why would they want to?
There may be aliens that can't speak to us, so that could be the reason.
Why then has god not spoken to us, given that he can?
Do you see a little hypocrasy in your reasoning?
Question Author
Paul, our god or creator has spoken already just by being creative and having created us, why can't some people feel or see what's right before their eyes?

Where is your proof of aliens?
I could equally say my proof of aliens is that we are here, aliens created us so they must exist.
I don't believe that but my argument carries as much weight as yours.

There are more people who have claimed to have seen aliens than there are people who have claimed to have seen god.
