If you are a believer, at what age did you come to the conclusion that your holy book is the word of god, is true in every way and would dictate your every action for the rest of your life.

We can't ask for a lottery win and expect to get it.
I take that line to mean, sincerely ask for faith and it will be given to you.
Hey Sandy, does that work on closing doors too? If I ask for us to be given a break from the relentless rantings of AB's new Christian brethren, do you reckon my wish will be granted? Shut sesame! Magic! ;o)
When I was a boy attending confirmation classes by very enlightened (CofE) parish priest always stresses that the bible was a translation of ancient scrolls that attempted to explain the worlds as it was experienced in those days, and should not be taken literally as the current work of god.
Of course there is a yearning for faith Sandy. I would gladly clean out the toilets in heaven if it exists and I could pass the entrance test. Many people of our age probably think the same. On an intellectual level however, it doesn't seem to hold water. O.K., Jesus said we must be as little children but its hard to shake of f the need to be able to prove everything to accept its validity. Hence an honest agnosticism.
:)
Naomi, the help of God is closer than the door. An old Irish proverb.
These new in-your-face zealots can easily be avoided. All you need do is avoid R&S. ;-)
He who laughs last – laughs longest.

Elderman..That isn't one god's one liners is it?
God would never be so cruel as to laugh at poor benighted atheists as they wallow in the cesspit of their overweaning pride and ignorance.

Steady on Sandy, that a bit err...un-christian isn't it. Anyway if the bible is to be believed god can manage to do worse than laugh at atheists.
Sandy, //All you need do is avoid R&S. ;-) //

Now you're being silly. :o)
sandyroe, I find you a sensible person and always read your contributions, as you are not one of those fanatics.

I am however very surprised at your

I do not understand. Does that mean that you take the possibility of the existence of your God as much as a chance in winning a lottery?
Wildwood,
When I wrote: 'I take that line to mean...', I was referring to this line.

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you."
The Bible is not the easiest book to understand. Belief in it or otherwise does not determine your destiny IMO
I have asked, seeked and knocked - nothing there. I would love to believe - nothing there.
Mariner, it`s just not your time
^^ Good for you, Mariner. You've managed to hang on to your senses. ;o)
Sandy: What is the decalogue? Sounds like somethig I should read;study.
I am going through a difficult time now.
Thank You
OK Sandy: I got it, I googled it and you were talking abut the 10 commandments. It is amazing that if people over the years followed them, the world would be better off.

Well, they would if they erased the first four.
