Well, I had this question people, but got no answers, this might be a better place. I was thinking, and I guess I am probably too lazy to do any research, but I read the other day that Stalin was an atheist. As I was thinking, he did away with church attendance in his socialism Russia. Did he ever have any connections with a religion?

It's just that I thought there might be some historians out there that could probably give me their opinion off the top of their heads. Any comments would be appreciated. Thank You!

Well thank you Mark Rae for dspelling the snarking Englishman myth!
What is the problem, exactly? Would your family disown you if you did some work...?
Question Author
Well actually thank you, I perused the bio of Stalin you advised on Wikki and it is most interesting. What a complicated and interesting man.

Yoo hoo MarkRae, have some patience with me, famiily would not disown me, but do I use the excuse that I am an old person, and what do you expect from an old person. Actually, I always forget about wikii and the marvelous resource that is at our fingertips. I am still in the book generation. If I didn't see it in print in a book, I forget other information sources. I also wanted to generate a discussion of Joseph Stalin. Who knows, maybe someone who actually knew him or lived lived thru his governance would have reponded.
Stalin's life and record provide an interesting take on the argument that the world would be a better place if populated solely by atheists :-)
Wouldn't the world have been a far better place if he hadn't left the seminary and completed his studies for the priesthood?
Age is no excuse nohorn. I am 84 and use google and anything else I can. I sometimes get advice from Markrae and others here, but take delight in being able to find out for myself. I also buy things on the net, including my groceries, and have even been known to sell things on eBay. There are many others on Answerbank who do the same and many of them are pensioners (maybe not as old as me, but still in the pensioners age group).
a more densely populated place, certainly, sandyRoe.

ichkeria, most atheists are as close to human perfection as it's possible to come (they will tell you so themselves), but there's always one bad apple.
Don't be too hard on nohorn, we all have to learn how to use computers, my (more) elderly friend is always asking my advice ......
no reason to be hard on nohorn at all. If everybody used Google, AB would be pretty much obsolete; but why should they? Asking on this site IS research, just as looking at Wikipedia is.
jno, //most atheists are as close to human perfection as it's possible to come (they will tell you so themselves), //

Most? I've never heard any of them make such a claim. Got a link?
jno - not being hard on nohorn. I just didn't agree with her using age as an excuse. I have had many questions answered on AB and have been very grateful for them. I have found that most people here are very kind and I am always amazed at how quickly questions are answered. Almost as if there was someone sat waiting for the question, just for you.
