Do religious people....

have a problem with reasoning?
I have a few folk that I'm in contact with (of the religious persuasion) and it seems that any mention of a reasoned discussion is out of the equation. Bring reason into the disscusion and it always turned out that 'God' knows best.
I'm very interested in the spiritual/religious side of life but we have to be reasonable as well surely?

I've looked at your profile, you've asked more than one question relating to religion, and you've had plenty of answers. On the first page alone I see that, to date, one has produced 99 answers and another 306. If you post questions about religion, you are surely not surprised that the answers you get are associated with .... religion.

Well I know Greengrocers exist - I am prepared to believe that somwhere out there, there may be other life forms.

However there is as much proof that the Tooth Fairy and Santa Claus exist as there is for god.

The fact that you deny their existance makes me wonder why you should believe in god.

Thanks for clarifying the point I was making Dave, it appears that I am being a little too subtle for some.
Sith, I have never compared god with a green grocer the tooth fairy or santa claus. I think what I said was easy enough to understand, I am not going to labour the point just to save you the effort of trying to undersand it. I was only comparing god with alien (extraterrestrial) lifeforms in the context of likelihood of proof of existence. As understanding of the universe and the development of more powerful instruments and techniques increases, the likelihood of evidence of alien lifeforms increases whilst the chance of finding evidence for the existence of god decreases.

I think Occam's razor is unnecessarily sharp for peeling spuds or cutting them into chips.
We could get Russell's teapot (if only we could find the damn thing !) to make a cuppa.

dave, people have believed in god for over 1000 of years, the tooth fairy has not lasted that long and also the tooth fairy and santa clause are proven to be false as you always learn that it is actually your mum or dad who puts your presents under the tree. however if you still believe in santa good for you :)

jom, yes i agree with you there. there is as much evidence for aliens. however i have never said aliens do not exist. it says in the quran that aliens do exist however we believe humans are far more advanced. However believing in god is about faith. You say there is no proof of god. well i say there is no concrete proof of the big bang and even if the big bang or something else happened to start of the earth. than who created that?
