Reading through the threads here on R&S, I see that there are at least two JW's (mymom and truthabounds)
I'd like to ask why you wont read any literature that contradicts JW teaching?
What are you afraid of?
On many occasions ive taken (and read) watchtower and awake magazines from JW's at my door but try and get a JW to read any literature that I recommend and they just wont hear of it. WHY? If you are so sure of your faith then surely reading something that might question your belief isnt a big deal? After all, I read your magazines without any fear.

Let us face it: to begin going from house to house with a Bible message is one of the hardest things for the average modest person, male or female, young or old, to do. In fact, occasionally Witnesses who have spent decades preaching full time have confessed that after all those years it goes against their natural inclinations that it takes real effort .There is always the uncertainty of what kind of reception one may get at the door. Without question, not a few persons are offended when an individual comes to their door with a Bible message, and no one enjoys offending people. The initial reaction of many a truth-lover who was studying the Bible with one of the Witnesses has been, ‘I could never go from house to house. But they do.

Fair point, I agree. I do however have several gripes with what they are trying to spread.
Their doctrines are wrong, using their 'what the bible really teaches' booklet. And moreover, what comes first with them, the Watchtower literature or the bible.
When I was studying with them, the Watchtower literature came out first and told us what to read in the bible. Even then it wasn't correct. Jumping from book to book and placing passages from the OT mixed with the NT making up a story that doesn't exist.
As pretty a picture it painted that we will all come back to life when the 144,000 are chosen we will (christians) all be reunited with our loved one.
More to the point I did say to them that we were doing disservice to the authors of the books by not letting them say what they wanted to say.

I don't believe (without proof) anyone is an atheist. My girlfriend says she is an "atheist", there is always, always even if the spark is not viewable to others that the thought of a creator(s) or thought of "what if" after death. Everybody has it.
can an atheist prove there is nothing? When even the top scientists cannot make a 100% connection of evolution to humans, and Clergy cannot prove that there is a God?
I am very agnostic, bordering on the "atheist" side, that there is no afterlife etc, which is why I very much read the Stoics, because like the rest of the world danees, no one can prove concrete evidence to either side.

How one becomes an atheist, as I am, follows. All religions are based on belief. So why should I not believe that no god exists? Religions can't prove that their god or gods exist. It is not up to atheists to prove there is no god. One cannot prove a negative. Without the myths of religions we would all be happy atheists (less war and less prejudice). At the same time, I believe in most Christian MORAL values. I do not preach atheism!

Well, have they never thought that their natural inclinations might be quite correct, even god-given, and the best thing to do is stop?
