Do these dreadful words not at least send a frisson of foreboding through the stoutest of sceptics here in R&S on this, Ash Wednesday?

Nah... used to hate that dirty mark on my head that I had to walk round with all day. It itched too.
The chief problem about death, incidentally, is the fear that there may be no afterlife -- a depressing thought, particularly for those who have bothered to shave. Also, there is the fear that there is an afterlife but no one will know where it's being held.

How do you know this lot isn't purgatory sandy?
Nope.
//there is the fear that there is an afterlife but no one will know where it's being held.//

Reminds me of the so-called permissive society. Everyone wants to join but no one knows where to write to for the application form.

Jom, thanks.

Seadog, Sartre said: hell is other people. I don't know if I'd disagree with that, particularly when I see the atheists e-mailing each other, the better to undermine my poor attempts at soul saving.
hi sandy, the worse thing on ash wednesday when i was young, was having a fringe, ashes ended up on my nose :(
Question Author
You think that's bad? There was an old priest with a very shaky hand. An eyeful of ash really stings.
Sandy, assumptions can be wrong. ;o)
Question Author
Naomi, I never even suggested that the old priest had a drink problem. :-)
Oh really? My mistake then. :o)
Question Author
Oh, I see what you mean now. People aren't e-mailing each other in order to undermine my attempts to save a soul or two... ;-)
What? Oh, come on Sandy. Be reasonable! As if we needed to! Rational argument on AB sorts that out.

Time for bed. Night all. x
Question Author
As ever, you're not wrong.
Sandy, do I detect a touch of paranoia?
Sandy I will swear (on the bible) if you wish me to, that my message had nothing to do with either you or this thread. I was just an answer to a question. Anyway we atheists don't need to use emails to communicate, we have our own methods.
Question Author
My posts late last night were an ill considered attempt at a joke. I'm really not so egotistical, or paranoid, that I would imagine people are conspiring against me...
"Anyway, we atheists don't use e-mails to communicate, we have our own methods." Dear God, you're not a clique of telepaths, are you?
The collective noun for telepaths is not a 'clique' Sandy.
//Dear God, you're not a clique of telepaths, are you?//

That's me out then . . . atheist prayer meetings? :o/
