and why do you think seeing family and friends is boring and isolationist? what do you do in your spare time? run down the street with a feather up your jacksy singing yankee doodle dandy for entertainment? do you think my husband locks me in a cupboard and only lets me out to entertain occasionally?
*pdust. Have you nothing better to do than gossip on the phone? There isa life to be lived. You could perhaps do some good in yours. *
care to tell me another way to keep in touch with people a couple of thousand of miles away? a lot of them dont have internet, it would be silly to jump on a plane and spend tons of money to go see them every day now wouldnt it.... and has teleportation machines have yet to be invented then im afraid the good old phone comes in handy :)
both your comments were a personal attack on me....you have the nerve to tell me my life is boring/isolationist(not sure thats the right word) and that perhaps i shouldnt chat on the phone to family and do some good.... and what are you doing with your life? coming online and trying to cause trouble by making silly random remarks nothing to do with the OP.... quite sad actually...maybe you should take a step back and look at your own life :)

The rules for all religions were laid down by Men so therefore all discriminate, just some more than others.
Pixie I was brought up as were my peers to always walk on the outside when walking with a woman, any woman, it wasn't religion, it was called being gentlemanly.
As for the other points you raised in your first point I am glad you are content however I think my wife would be horrified to live a life where I ruled it and gave her money, I provided for my family when our children were young but she went back to work as soon as she could.
Consequently should anything happen to me she can stand on her own two feet. Oh and she go's out to meet her friends.

dave i did say it was a personal thing if you look back... i was just pointing out that i didnt walk behind my husband as some people had mentioned...
Also until last year when i got made redundant i did work...full time.... i was just saying that if i chose to not work i wouldnt have to....... until i get another job ive been working voluntarily..... i also go out to see friends...at their houses or in town or they come here...just like 'normal people'.... i dont know what your point is tbh....

dave if you look back grasscarp commented about 'any religion that makes or expects woman to walk behind men...' after that there was a couple of replies to that.... i believe grasscarp was referring to Islam.... i was just stating that i didnt and wasnt expected to walk behind my husband for religious purposes and that i walked at the side of him away from the road and it was personal reasons.....
i dont understand why anyone thinks im cloistered or isolated or whatever else as been suggested... i do what most women do... go out to work (though its unpaid) both me and my fella clean and cook, go see mates and family, have mates and family round.........

////Jomifl - Keyplus, are you saying that muslims don't do the things grasscarp listed?///
You have answered half of your own question by saying “Muslims”. Think hard and you would find out soon.
////Naomi - Pixi, wonderful, but you don’t speak as a Muslim woman born into an eastern culture, so quite frankly, you are not qualified to speak for those that are.////
So now it has nothing to do with Islam or even Muslim women at large. It’s to do with Muslim women born in the East. Naomi is trying to corner the problem.
Pixi – My wife usually walks in front of me. But whatever you do (or say) you would never be able to convince few people although there is nothing wrong in trying and letting people know about “first hand knowledge”. But I am surprised that no one has so far pointed out that by making you walk away from the roadside your husband might be oppressing you.

salams keyplus.... yeah you are so right..... and im surprised too especially with me using the word insists..... when i finally asked him why he took my hand and steered me from the roadside all the time, his answer was that if a car by any chance mounts the pavement it would hit him not me :) it also gives me great opportunity to window shop :D
