C of E Archbishop blows gaff on investment more important than congregation!

The Archbishop of Barnstaple (North Devon) has announced that the Church of England will be using its land - i.e a money-making scheme, by allowing the establishment of wind farms (horrible, inefficient windmills) by a private company (or companies) in a number of places that his own Company (commonly called Church of England) has invested in.
Apparently the spin-doctors have devised the phrase "to preserve god's creation" and conforms with "gospel values". (PMSL).
THIS MONEY-MAKER SPITS IN THE EYES OF VIRTUALLY ALL RESIDENTS AND HIS CONGREGATION IF HE HAS ONE.

I doubt very much thet the arch Bish has a congregation. And I don't think the CofE has invested in land, it's just theirs, historically to use as they see fit.

Oh, naomi, you are killing our sport! The Elevated Eternity of Exeter used to have the See down here too - until the 1870s, the 1st Bish of Truro, Benson, getting the boot up to the AoC.....our only AoC. The current one is, apparently, in the batting line up for the job, I think because of his age, as he doesn't seem to be that prominent in the community (wit the gay hotel punch-up in Marazion).

Not a surprise , though the 'preserving God's creation ' bit is rather stomach- turning. This is more Mammon's than God's. But the Church Commissioners have vast holdings of real estate, not just churches and related buildings. That's how they pay the bills, after all. It's not being done by collection plates on Sundays! They have a duty to maximise returns.

I don’t think that is how the church pays its bills. The church doesn’t spend income from its investments if it doesn’t have to. Even the smallest churches have to raise quite large amounts each year to pay the incumbent priest’s wages and expenses. Our little village church, for example, half of which is now maintained by the Historic Churches Conservation Trust, is one in a benefice of five, and alone has to raise around £10,000 per annum, plus any extra money for repairs – and without the help of the rest of the people in the village, the congregation of about 20 would struggle to find that money. The church doesn’t spend much of its own stash.
