Mary lifted into Heaven

My young niece asked me if it was true that the Virgin Mary was physically lifted into heaven.

I blustered a bit as I was not really sure of the basis of her question.
Is there a reference to this 'event' in the Bible?
Who lifted her for instance?

Any pointers please?

What does 'traditional name' mean? would I be right in thinking that it means 'nobody really knows so we will call her anne just to make it look as if we know what we are talking about'?
Jom, exactly. It's possible she didn't exist anyway - and if she did, for all we know her name could have been Gladys! :o)
//Jom, exactly. It's possible she didn't exist anyway - and if she did, for all we know her name could have been Gladys! :o)//

No, Gladys would've had to have been her mother's sister.
Steady on Naomi if Mary didn't have a mother then she must have been an 'angel come down from heaven' ..(one of god's concubines) which would mean that jesus is not only the son of god but also his half grandson on his mother's side....I think.
//jesus is not only the son of god but also his half grandson on his mother's side....//

.... twice removed? ;o)
At least :-)
Surely only twice, Jom? ;o)
Almost 25% of the posts on this thread have come from Naomi. Our Lady must be highly delighted at such devotion. This calls for a special novena with triple Aves.
Maths not your strong point, Mike?

Coo, I got quite excited there for a moment - but sadly Jom has beaten me. Well done, Jom!
7 out of 29 is near as dammit 25% in my book. However it's now 7 out of 30 which brings the odds down to just over 20%. Please keep posting, if only for Our Lady's sake.
By my count it was 6 when you first posted - but then, who's counting?

And she might be your lady - but she's certainly not 'ours'.
Now you've upset Her. She's crying. Time for a few decades of the Holy Rosary.
Crying? 'Only Fools & Horses' is a comedy, you know. ;o)
Kindly don't interrupt when I'm just halfway through the second decade!
The question is under the heading of 'Religion & Spirituality' and it is from an aunt uncertain as to how she should respond to a question from her young niece. Judging by the quality of response from the more prolific posters on the thread, it isn't surprising that the questioner seems to have abandoned it.
Oops. Sorry. I know you have an affinity with M. Pascal. I'm going to bed - but do carry on. ;o)

Night all.
I find these posts odd to say the least. If you believe in anything religious then you are open to taunts and ridicule. For people who believe in a big fat nothing there is nothing you can say back to them. That is the problem with all these religious debates. The attackers will always be able to find a reason to dismiss anything that supports a reason to believe. I think they would really like to believe in something as if it is of no interest why are they even reading these threads?
Khandro, you're right. I'll try harder tomorrow.

Night all - again.
Morning all.

Khandro, in retrospect, you’re not right – at least in my case. I answered the question when I said //as far as I'm aware, 'it' doesn't say that [Mary’s mother was a virgin] - no more than 'it' says that the Virgin Mary was transported bodily into heaven.//.

Grasscarp, // If you believe in anything religious then you are open to taunts and ridicule.// I can see beliefs being ridiculed, but not believers.

//The attackers will always be able to find a reason to dismiss anything that supports a reason to believe.// Doesn’t that tell you something?

//I think they would really like to believe in something// You’re mistaken.

//if it is of no interest why are they even reading these threads?// That question has been asked and answered many times. It’s not ‘of no interest’. Religion affects us all - whether we want it to or not.
