Doing God's Work

Since believers strive to always fulfill the will of their god I was wondering how many of the believers here would be willing to "put every man woman and child to the sword" if their god commanded them to do so.
Abraham's God employed the Hebrews to conduct just such a genocidal slaughter of more than 32 tribes that were already living in "The Promised Land" before their invasion. The massacres of some tribes had special instructions for particular brutality because God disliked them so vehemently.
We all know the time when god comes to fix everything will be heralded by an almighty episode of killing as god ensures all the wicked shall perish. With so much work God may well need the help of his minions.
So would you be happy to help in God's work?
How would you be sure that it was truly God that had given the command?

Thankfully, as I may have mentioned before, there is no God, so stop wasting your time worrying about it.//
Fortunately, not everyone agrees with you on the first account . . . unfortunately, on the second. That god speaks only to the delusional and insane makes Him no less a danger to humankind . . . whether or not He really exists.

Naoim@- First,Jesus did not ask his disciples to carry a weapon for protection or self-defense. Rather, their having swords on hand on the night of his betrayal made it possible for Jesus to teach them a vital lesson: “All those who take the sword will perish by the sword.”—Matt. 26:52.
It is, therefore, of far more than passing interest to consider how the Bible, a book written by men, is truly God’s Word. There are obviously many details of human history not recorded as part of the Divine Record. But every necessary detail, both for those who first read it and for us today, has been included without making it cumbersome and impossible to read.

Really? How do you know that? Or is it just what you prefer to believe?
I would have said that on the night in question, defence would probably have been futile, and that's why Jesus told his disciple to put the sword away.

It would really help if you could be a bit more specific about what you mean by 'believers'. At present, this comes across as being aimed specifically at Jews and Christians. I'm guessing that this is what you mean - is that right?
Are Pagans, Muslims, Hindus and other faiths included in your question?

If God commanded you to do something, you would know it. There would be no doubt in your mind that it could be anyone or anything else and I beleive everyone would do as comanded provided that the 'God' effect stayed with them.
At the point when (your) god came to you, all your old thoughts of morality, law and man made ideals of what is right and wrong would go out the window and you would want, with all your being, to make him/her/it happy.
If you believe in God (perhaps even if you don't) then at some point you will be tested to make sure you are the right people to live in Gods new world.
The human capasity for war is only a throw back from Gods wrath and religious teachings.

Old_Geezer //Surely you mean "The massacres of some tribes had special instructions for particular brutality because those who claimed to speak with God disliked them so vehemently." ?
I guess it depends on what you consider to be God. However I am using the standard definition of God (with a capital G) taken directly from the Old Testament which made it clear that God so vehemently hated some tribes that special instructions were given to ensure the greatest suffering was endured during their demise.

I guess it depends on whether one takes The Gospel as "gospel" ;-)
Personally I can not see why a God should indulge itself with such unfortunate human emotions such that it would feel it must hate any of it's creations. I suspect someone powerful putting words into their deity's mouth, as it were .
