Is God Good ?

I am going to a talk called 'Is God Good ' It's being presented by a Baptist Minister.
Now being as even the existance of God can not to proved . That question is impossible to answer directly. I will challenge the question at the outset but how do you suggest I could take it from there ?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Modeller, You can take a different tack entirely and provide evidence that the God your Baptist Minister is talking about is not the Almighty Creator – and you can obtain that evidence from the bible – which, of course, is where the minister obtains his evidence.
That God was not, as claimed, omniscient – not least because he was obliged to search for Adam and Eve when they hid from him - and when he decided to murder all the first born, had he known where the Israelites lived, they would have had no reason to mark their doors with blood in order to avoid the slaughter. You have to ask why all the plagues anyway? If this God was really omnipotent, as claimed, why the need to grind the Egyptians down with ten spiteful plagues rather than just zap the slaves out of servitude? And just to add to the dilemma, in one instance he was unable to defeat iron chariots. Not as tough as he’s cracked up to be. ;o)
In answer to the question ‘Is God Good?’, you could point the Minister in the direction of the genocide commanded in the Book of Joshua – and even to God’s commandment to kill disobedient children - in Deuteronomy. There’s plenty of evidence there to indicate that this God was far from good – and you don’t have to look far to find it.
If there is a God, it has to be something much greater than the God of Abraham – and since no can can prove or disprove the existence of a Creator God, if I were attending such a talk, that is the argument I would submit.

Perhaps you could pose a question to which I am still awaiting an explanation from anyone who is of the opinion that 'God is Good'.

Good and evil are human constructs and may have no significance when a true understanding of reality is known. In which case it can hardly be applied to a diety, who would probably make the rules in the first place, and so could define themselves as either. I don't see the question is likely to have much meaning.
