They really really believe this 6,000 years bit ... and we coexisted with the dinosaurs, etc.

These people probably work in banks and things, and look after people's money.
And you are right about some of the US proponents being scary.

Link below to a video of a Republican Congressman, a member of the Science Select Committee, rejecting evolution, the big bang theory etc as "lies from the pit of hell" -whats worse, this guy is an MD!

Oh, yes ... I'd forgotten about that, WBA.
I had an American friend who was a geologist working for an oil company.
As such you would think he would be the last person to believe all this creationist nonsense but he fervently believed it. E
He agreed that it took millions of years to make oil but said God was able to do it in 7 days. The same thing applied to all the million year old fossils.
They were created by God and deposited on tops of mountains by Noah's flood. This was a man with two doctorate degrees.

Scary, isn't it.
Now, people, just remember we've had the benefit of 2000+ years of growing up behind us, the americans have only 200+ years. They haven't had time to get rid of their inner child memories - they'll believe anything at present, they'll sort it out in another 200 years or so.
@ Modeller - scary how scientific knowledge can be displaced by faith in a book of myths and legend.

As a general observation, the more scientific the education, the less likely one is to believe in creationism and the like - and within scientific disciplines, those most opposed to such thinking tend to be evolutionary biologists and geologists...
Drat! I didn't know it was on.
